Default after market ecu's and idle control valves

    hey guys,

just bolting my 1jz together with the following

    - gt3582r
    - 6boost manifold
    - 44mm tial gate
    - ebay big chrome inlet manifold
    - USA made 80mm throttle body (had a 100mm but it was rediculously big)

got a few questions from people on here who have either got the same setup or have experience with this sort of setup

    - how am i gunna go with cold start and such without a cold start injector and idle control valve?.. or is there aftermarket idle control valves i should install some where?.. im really up in the air about this?

    - has anyone used bosch 800cc injectors? cos i can get them for stuff all

    - what ecu do people recommend for this sort of setup with a manual trans.. i dont wanna spend millions but i wanna good ecu that tuners wont winge about tuning?.. i want good cold starting and i dont wanna have issues since theres no p/s idle up anymore..

what do people recommend when going this far with these type of manifolds and setups?.. would love to hear what you have, maybe even what horsepower and how she runs when cold and on the street..

    thanks guys

    choose an ECU that can:
    - do closed-loop idle control
    - control an aux-air valve like this (or this or this) this via PWM
that should deal with your cold start and lack of power-steer idle up. Easy to plumb and wire up.

re: ability to control injectors of most sizes and the item above
    - adaptronic or megasquirt (MS1 Extra and above) will do this. Autronic or vipec or haltech will also do this. In fact, most ECUs will do closed-loop idle control and drive both Hi and Low-Z injectors. How much do you want to spend?

are you going to wire it up? I think $2k for supply & fit is not achievable unless you are paying kebab-shop rates. Except for the megasquirt and (only just) Adaptronic, those ECUs are going to come in at way over $1k without even including any sensors or wiring.

I think 2K is easily do able. Simply buy a decent ecu (adaptronic, haltech, etc) and wire it up yourself.
If you need any assistance with wiring/tuning feel free to fire me a pm. I am more than happy to help where I can.

+1 for adaptronics new select ecu range. I think it should meet your needs adaquately. stay away from microtechs, as you will be disappointed. The new haltechs are good also. But overall bang for buck with your budget in mind, I think adaptronic is something you should look at.

Also grab yourself a wideband setup, you can get Innovate LC-1's fairly cheap and they are widely useable.

Another plug for adaptronic, mine's been excellent.

You won't get decent idle/starting without some kind of idle control valve, a PWM one is the easiest to wire...

    Lies!

ok well, lies maybe if you dont have aircon or hi-load power steering....

Hahaha, prove me wrong, but I haven't seen one that starts easily, idles high when cold and low when warm

(Edit: ignore decades 2 month idling/stalling issues )

    2JZ, 660cc injectors, EMS Stinger4 ECU. Idles @ 700-800 when warm, ~1500-ish when cold.

ISCV has been deleted. Just using an idle up solenoid arrangement which cracks the throttle open a little when the ECU sees the water temp below 50 degrees. (Plus the ECU adds a little extra fuel when cold).

have used an adaptronic to control the stock JZ stepper valves perfectly, they just take up four of your aux outputs. They were wired in waste spark and batch injection on both a 1J and 2J

I've got a vipec v88 on my own 2J with a stock stepper ISCV and it also starts/idles like a stock ECU, but costs a fair bit more than a base spec adaptronic.

megasquirt 3+MS3x can control steppers perfectly also, as well as the adaptronic. Im just going to use an XF PWM valve on my 3sgte (using XF TB and ST162? manifold)

i was thinkin of running an ems stinger and using a bosch idle valve from a hyundai excel which would only take up one output on the ecu..

Who tunes adaptronic in perth without complaining? I rang a few tuners and they said there crap.. Which obviously they all say different things and wanna sell there own product but i recall tuners saying ems are crap and i used one on a 2jz i build and that was awesome..

And actualy the idle stepper motor and power steering idle up were both deleted and it was fine.. Little bit low on idle when cold but thats it

Nothing wrong with EMS. I only went with EMS because that's what my tuner prefers to work with. It's been great, although my only regret is not going for a motorsport 8860 instead of the base model- the stinger 4... batch fire injection doesn't really do wonders for fuel economy.

Other than that, the car runs like a dream. Starts first time every time, idles nicely, and most importantly... it happily makes 490rwhp without a drama.

Lack of closed loop 02 doesn't help economy either

Call C-Red, they tune Adaptronic, as do WTF. C-Red are also TECCWA sponsor: 10% discount
