    Default 4age bigport timing issue

    4age bigport timing issue

    Car:ae86
engine: 4age big port with tvis stock everything, bit of a mangled loom
    issue:
timing retards itself while accelerating, everything has been set properly at tdc etc, if you shut off the engine the timing jumps out by about 30deg and the motor wont restart, you have to turn it twice for the timing to reset to where it should be then it starts fine, idles fine but when you rev the motor the timing retards itself heaps instead of advancing.
things like dizzy ignitor and ecu are all fine and working, all bolts are tight on the cam gears and everything was set properly at tdc.
any ideas? the car feels about as fast as a worn out 4ac

Have you checked the main crank pulley? The key may be worn and this may be "slipping". Check that the bolt is tightened.

"bit of a mangled loom" - has the car always been like this or has it just started happening? if it has always been like this since you have purchased it, etc, then quite possibly the CAS may be wired incorrectly?

just putting the idea out there.

Hey mate. There are some others here who have more knowledge of the factory setup, but it sounds to me like the ECU is running in 'fault' mode and retarding timing, and/or you have a major sensor problem.

The most important sensors that are critical for the ECU to run the engine properly are:
    1. CAS
    2. MAP/AFM

Agree with RT40Corona4AGTE, check wiring of these two sensors as a minimum and/or replace them as a first step, but its sounding like its the CAS.

You are shorting pins E1 and Te1 in the diagnostic connector when you set base timing?
