Is it 2WD (if so well even 4WD) , you can find a manual bell hous to go from a r154 to 5vz , from a 5VZ hilux ,however the input shaft of the r 154 i think will be to long , if you are going 4WD the yes just get the g/box that comes with the 4WD, either way all R g/boxs are not going to be cheap

GiantTomato has developed an adaptor ring to mount an R-series bellhousing to a VZ series engine. This will allow you to use a W58 transmission. Do a search, he posted a thread about it not long ago.

that was to join a w50 gearbox and 3vz engine. the w58 and w50 have completely different faces, so i can't see how this would work.

The adapter goes between the bellhousing and the block, so it will work with any transmission with an R series bellhousing - including the W58.

as mentioned this now puts the a6 series celicas in that category (i though they were w55's however) 1g powerd stuff, and a few others.
Look for some 20, 21 and 22r powered cars at the wreckers, they would probably be w55,6,7's but it's a start, find a 1g powered car for a w58...this is off the top of my head however.

I have seen RA6x Celicas with W57 and W58 transmissions. Never seen a W55 but apparently they exist also. You won't find a W56 though, that's a truck box.

All VZ engines (1-5) have the same pattern. Funny enough, so do the MZ series.

    A bit of logic....
    3VZ bolts to E153
    1MZ bolts to E153
so if 3VZ bolts to W5x with this adaptor plate...
then you can assume that 1MZ bolts to W5x also!

Just in case anyone wanted to know.
    Kind Regards,
    Kurt.

Just a note on the 1MZ
It does not have provision for a starter motor on the block. They have the starter on top of the trans.
However, there is some room to go to hack on the block

Your logic is flawed. You're assuming the VZ and MZ series have the same bellhousing bolt pattern, which may not be the case.
