did you try the ignition module like i suggested and look at the fuel pump and tps.Originally Posted by Bananaman
i've gone through dozens of coil-packs and ignitors on them things... does weird things from mis-firing (big engine it's almost impossible to notice sometimes) to stalling, to sudden power losses and the occassional "wouldn't start".
hm.. i'd say it's a common problem caused by common faults with the motor, which is a lot!! hope this helps though.. if not i'd be looking at the loom and checking FPR / fuel line to see if any petrol coming through when it's stalled and wouldn't start. (fuel pump is another problem these things have).

I've yet to do this, whereabouts is this located? My old man has a VP ute, so i can play swapsies to see if anything makes a difference. That said, a problem with an ignition module would be prevalent all the time wouldn't it, as opposed to only on startup? Although... its guilty of the sudden power losses trick, its done it to me a couple of times, the other day driving along it started running like it does on startup in the middle of nowhere for 30 seconds... then back to normal.Originally Posted by kingmick
Fuel pump seems fine, the noise which had started which i thought was it dying was actually my rear window wiper being on all the time with no wiper arm on itHow do you suggest i test this?
I've not removed the TPS, i've never touched one before, so i don't want to make an arse of the alignment..
Since changing oxygen sensor and coolant sensor, its never stalled and not started again since it did on that ill fated saturday night. That could be coincidence, but who knows. I've driven maybe 100km since then.

soory must have missed the reply! on the V8 its on the drivers side innerguard, alloy box with cooling fins on it! on the 6 i cant remmeber.
my guess from is either the module or the fuel pump
the ignter is under the coil packs. what you should do is replace the coilpacks and the DLi module (igniter).
i think from memory there is 3 10mm nuts that hold the coilpack arrangement to the support and a 7mm bolt that holds the plug that goes to the igniter.
remove them together and put the VP one on there. see how that goes. they are not hard to swap and should only take bout 10-15mins to swap over.
if this solves the problem, you can seperate the igniter from the bottom of the coilpacks and source a new one. the igniters are a much more common thing to blow, the coil packs not as common.

ive done heaps more igniters......perhaps we should trade some cars to even it out!

Before this, i have to change the flex plate though, because it just keeps stripping more and more teeth off it, i'm getting more and more sick of having to turn it over by hand to somewhere with teeth.
lol, the joys of buying a heap. I'll run out of things to fix eventually
