    Default 1/2JZ belt tensioner pulley

I just had a bearing failure of my 2JZ accessories belt tensioner pulley. For those that are interested, instead of buying the whole pulley from Toyota you can just replace the bearing itself...it presses out and back in dead easy. The bearing No is 6203 (it's the same bearing for the 1UZ tensioner pulley out of interest, although the UZ pulley itself is bigger).

A simple how too: 14mm socket or ring with long breaker bar and turn clockwise to release tensioner and flip belt off. You'll be disturbed how much force this requires, hence the long breaker needed. The pulley bolt undoes in the normal fashion, so turn anti-clockwise.

Bearing presses out with a 21mm socket (or near enough).... and pres the new bearing back in after lubing with a 30mm socket.

    The rest is obvious

weird (and bad) move by Toyota to have a 14mm high tensile bolt into an alloy thread that needs that much force to move?

The tensioner on my 1j doesnt require too much force... just a 1/2 inch ratchet is usually easy enough to move it...

One thing to note is that only the early xJZ tensioner pulleys are steel, the later ones are plastic and can't (at least not easily) have the bearing replaced (It's secured in placed by 'stamping' the plastic)

The later plastic pulley does fix your observed design fault tho!

    See pic

Yeah a proper stud with nut makes more sense....Toyota learn from their mistakes at least

I found my 1JZ and 2JZ tensioners to be different... same bolt pattern, but the pulley ends up in different locations.... Are they supposed to be the same??
