turn the head upsidedown, and put some vaseline on the perspex so that when you cover the combustion chamber, the vaso creates a kind of temporary seal with the gasket face.
Thru the hole, using a syringe, inject some coolant (cos its green) into the combustion chamber, taking note of how much you are injecting.
You will be able to see when you are done with the green coolant, cos you can see the air bubbles coming out.

Voila - you now know combustion chamber volume.

Ive only ever seen it done once, and it was done this way.

From my exp 39cc appears to be an Atlantic type chamber. In a recent build I was a part of, the client was putting in a set of TRD/JE Piston slugs, the pistons were topped(.080" removed) and the chambers were opened up SIGNIFICANTLY and the opened chambers measured out to 39cc.

left chamber is 36cc, right chamber 39cc - both measured with a burette

Something I haven't seen mentioned yet is that the blacktop uses a tapered squish, and the silvertop is conventional, closer to that above.

    Edit:
Oh, and it is all kind of a nice reminder for me, as I have been immersed in a 64 cc chamber on my 3T of late. Man, 35 cc is small!
