Yeah its on now... Torqued to 80ft/pound, as stated in the ARP instructions.

Now with the "streching" of the bolts, The gasket has been on for about 3 hours, will it be ok to back the nuts off 1/4 turn and then do them upagain?

Also on a similar topic, is it possible to do a compression test with the engine out of the bay on an engine stand?

    Cheers

not unless you can wire up the starter motor and wind her over. You can give it a leak down test tho!

If you used an ACL gasket set then you shouldn't use hylomar.

If you look at the hylomar can you will see the ACL logo in the corner. ACL distribute Hylomar. If you ring ACL they will say don't use Hylomar on their monotorque gasket sets.

If you buy an ACL stainless steel head saver shim then ACL will say to use hylomar on this but only on the side that goes between the block and the shim.

Bottom line is the ACL gasket already has a coating of a similar sealant on the gasket and it is applied at the factory in a much more uniform fashion than can ever be achieved with a spray can and it has exactly the right amount on it from the factory.

If you read the FAQ section on the ACL website you will find all this info including an additional point that is often ignored.

ACL recommend not using Glycol coolants until the head gasket is properly seated. This occurs when the engine reaches running temp. The use of Glycol can prevent this sealing and cause gasket failure. So when you first run your engine just use water and then after cool down you can drain and refill with quality coolant.

One note about Hylomar for those that are saying it's drying before they've even release the nozzle on the can...
Hylomar is actually blue in colour... if it's not coming out blue then shake the can up more.
The clear crap is just the solvent.

The gasket is now installed, I did use hylomar on it, which the manufacture (ACL) says is not nessicary.

I called ACL today, they told me while it is not neccisary to put hylomar on it, its perfectly fine, I will just have to run water the first time I run the engine, and then retourque the head.

I think I should also check the head torque after 1000ks...

Now I just hope this gasket holds out for atleast the next year or so, I cant see why not considering im running stock boost, lexus afm/550s mod with safc, and a 3" zaust...

    Thanx for the help fellas...
