I've a rt142 Corona wagon. Purchased another rt142 wagon to use as a doner. The donor had very good steering where mine was a bit iffy. Donor steering had no wobbles, went in the direction it was pointing, all good. So, pulled the steering and put it into mine.
1. Noticed after I'd bolted the steering rack to the car, and before I'd connected the tie rods, that it was very very hard to push or pull the rack through the housing. Took a lot of effort. Maybe this is normal ?
2. Even after connecting the tie rods and putting on the wheels, it's not as easy to grab the wheels by hand and turn them left or right as it should be. Takes a bit of effort.
3. Got it wheel aligned. Driving it is interesting. Seems much better than the old steering, but, dunno, one minute it's like a train on tracks next minute it kinda wanders a bit. Also, a bit harder to turn left than right and steering wheel doesn't really return back (sorta does) to the middle so to speak after turning a corner.
Any suggestions as to a fix ?
Any help appreciated,
Trevor
All is well. Very good in fact. Moral to the story is: He who completely change steering and test drive on cyclonicly windy day is wanker.
