cant confirm but im pretty sure ive heard they are the same.

    why power steer but?

RNP is a HUGE improvement over the std gear and although I havent driven my RNP yet
im pretty confident that it will be plenty light.

I had planned on PWR STR too till i got a few peoples opinions.

I believe either of them will need to be modified to eliminate bumpsteer. I was previously against running PWR steer due to a number of factors, but if I run an electrically controlled power steer setup, I can have PWR in carparks, and manual on the highway/normal driving speeds, which will allow me to run wider tyres without the missus whinging about the heavy steering. Still has the chances for hydraulic leaks tho.

well i got by hand in the garage RA60 pwr str and cross member in the 23 shell and within
    +/- 1mm Bumpsteer.

As said comes down to placement and the engineer even approved it verbally when i consulted him. All he wanted was 23/28 crossmember ends welded onto the ra60 cross to meet the chasis mounting points.

Also for columns look at MA61 Supra RA60 Celica. The RA60 has 2 columns ... 1 for just
Rack and Pinion and another for pwr str. The pwr steer column is noticebly shorter. The manual column has a two piece shaft in the engine bay that has up to 80mm length adjustment.

All thats required to fit these is the dash mounts need to be filed 2-3mm (engineer okd) and drill a few holes in the firewall to bolt the floor plate (engineer okd) as the floor plate is a larger diameter than std.

and according to TurboRA28 on here KE70 column fits in too.

All have the same steering wheel thread so you can keep boss kits and wheels. And the 23/28 indicator stalks also bolt onto the above columns to save you rewiring.

Also to note is the plug off the ignition barrel needs to be change to the 23/28 one. I used a small flat screwdriver to press the locator tabs on the plug pins and just clipped em into the 23/28 plug. This is because the ign barrel plugs (at the key end) are different sizes and not swapable. I also looked at swapping the whole key barrell but they looked to different to work.

Hope this all helps ... sorry if any of this was already known

Externally identical. Some talk the manual racks may have one tooth variability but per Jonny Rochester on AE86DC

"I just looked up the steering rack and pinion and housing. AE86 is exactly the same as KE70 and AE71. If there is a difference, it is because our KE70's are made in Australia, maybe with a localy supplyed rack."

I have an ae86 power steering rack i bought it for $100 with all the lines + ae86 crossmember etc. From my research the only difference is the mounting of the rack onto the crossmember i.e. the power steering rack wont bolt onto a non pwr steer crossmember and vice versa. The mounts are in slighty different positions

so you used an RA60 xmember cut down with RA23 xmember ends on it into an RA23? Would like some more info on that one..

I used an AE86 rack in my old KE70, until it got damaged and I replaced it with a KE70 one. No problems.

Power steering does have a place, if you get over about 7 degrees castor, then the steering takes a bit of arm-love in carparks.

Was that a PS rack or manual rack?

That was a manual one. I've got a PS rack I was going to look at putting in there sometime, but I killed the car before I got that far!

AE86 and KE70 RACKS ARE NOT THE SAME

however they are extremely similar.while being externally the same, ae86 racks has one more tooth either end, and gives notably superior steering lock.

however, with AE86 power steering steering arms or AJPS lock spacers (or both) you will achieve the same results with a KE70 rack.

I can source all of these items for you, including rack. PM me for details.

Edit: Manual KE70 / AE71 Rack with old style lock spacers (give less lock than our new ones) and power steering arms....
