(SA) Vehicle rego with engine conversion info needed

hey guys im starting to look into rego for my hilux just wondering how people have gone about registering their cars with different motors
i have been told to get an engineer to check it all off then maby go thru a full roadworthy check which are a nightmare here in sa
any info would be a great help

Hey Scott,
The first thing you need to do is download a statement of requirements form from Transport SA.
(Ill find the link later)
They will tell you what you need to have done to your car to make it legal.

After that, you follow the information they give you, and do any of the things they require.

The 1UZ in a Hilux I have just done requires no engineers report, just a ID check, Emissions Check, and Regency check.

cheers so they didnt ask for engineering certs will they do that at regency park? is he driving it around until then or still no rego till it goes thru

Its their statement of requirements.
So that has come directly from them.

The car has no legal rego until it has gone through regency.

You won't need engineering if you follow their requirements. Thats the idea of them, to make the process a bit easier for common and reasonable conversions.

The car will need to be fully sorted and in good roadworthy condition. Unlike a defect check they probably won't go out of their way to find any little problem, but they will be fairly thorough and expect everything to be in working order.

yeah cool prob have to get an engineers cert for the 20s but otherwise should be ok ive been trying to do it all right but its a 31 year old ute im sure ive missed some things thanks for the help guys

Depends on what they say in their statement of requirements banana_socks.
They can ask for certain things to be engineered.

For my 1JZ in the cressida, they asked that I get about 5 different things done, which are all done through engineering.

Total cost came to over $2.5k just for the engineering side of things.

All to swap in an x81 engine into an x83.

yes you are better off buying a stock mx83 and using the number plate on your modded car, and doing it again everytime you get defected.

yeah im defiantely not looking forward to what they want done i have to dirve it in october so ill just permit it and then get it done after that
