    Default clutch fan>radiator minium clearance?

i know i made a thread about an hour ago about thermo fans etc etc... but after having a think about it and punching kicking and swearing i maybe able to fit the viscus fan in there.

but what is the minimum recommended clearance for a clutch fan to a radiator?

looks at best ive got aprox 15mm which isnt a great deal. i know they flex under load a bit. i dont have a lot else to compare to, my dads car has 40mm clearance.

    Hi,

It's more important to make sure the fan sits in the end of the shroud (ie closer to the engine) so it can pull through the air from the radiator. While the blades do flex, they don't flex 15mm.

Trin has the opposite problem. While her thermo fan is properly in the shroud, there is 2mm gap (if that) between the thermo fan motor and the engine. I guess I'm going to do some fiddling about when I upgrade from a double to triple core radiator in the next few months. Lucky I am using a thin arse thermo fan.

    Hi,

Ahh, the grinder!!!! I love it when people finesse their cars with such subtle tools.

Let us know how it all goes when you're done.

i tried a hack saw and file, but need more taken out and i have neighbours blah blah. im surprised i havent had a visit from the council due to noise the other day when i fired the car up. so i dont think a grinder after dark would go down so well.

im confident it will work with a tiny bit more taken out.

just out of curiosity, how much of this viscus fan fluid is actually needed, doesnt look like a lot it needed for it to actually work. dont suppose engine oil would do the job? or gear oil?

    Hi,

Yeah. It's a few dollars and a comes in a very small tube. One is enough but I use two tubes.
