Default How much boost can the M-TEU handle safely?

I know the answer is not alot, but I want to up the boost as much as i can safely, it's my daily driver not a project car so im not putting a 1g, or a 7m or a 5m or a 2j or a 1uz......if it blows up its getting a mild 253 something simple no wiring hassles. But untill then, how much boost can it handle? Not looking ot blow it up just looking for a few extra much needed horsies. If leaning out becomes an issue i have an apexi air fuel mixture computer sitting around that i can just bang in. Any wisdom would be appreciated. Cheers.

Non intercooled, i have an air to air that i have to trim down a little to fit, it seems to run fine on 10 psi, leans out at about 13.5 psi...gonna have to bang the safc2 in i think... but yeah as it stands now 10-11 seems to be the max before leaning occurs...but i dont wanna blow it up, was running 6.5 standard.

TBH, id say you have reached the safe limit. Maybe fit a T25 turbo rather than the stock unit?

a 253 would be a bad choice in so many ways.

M-ETU seems to be a real bitsa motor from what it seems. ever modification has side effects, more boost will wear things more quickly even if its only 1psi.

13psi is double the original boost setting, so your asking everything to work twice as hard. i think anything more then 10psi is asking for trouble from such a old motor.

Yeah i was thinking 10 pound was the limit, from what i can tell ive had the car since december and the motor is fairly strong, putting recon box in on monday think have to do the cv's . This is my missus' car, im driving it atm and i got the shits on with it being a 2 litre six and how slow it was, in comparison to the rb20 , so i started throwing money at it at least get a little bit more out of it. My project is in the shed TA63 gt-t hatchback....last dyno was 124.4kw atw stock but i decided to pull it to bits to ground up build it then lack of funds so its sat but im coming into some decent money in a couple of months so that should be finished fairly soon. so mteu till then. but yeah cheers man.

The MTEU is fair old mate, and not even DOHC....different generation of motors

i dont know a lot about it, but from my understanding they used a bit from here and a bit from there and really slapped it together, not exactly a fine feat of toyota engeneering!

if you want more power a intercooler or even a water/meth injection set-up might be a good idea.

The harder you push an ageing MTEU, the shorter its life will be. Stick to the factory boost and just accept that it's not an RB20 nor does it have a high-flowing turbo with a cartridge/ball-bearing core.

You missus may not appreciate being returned a car that has a shagged turbo and engine that runs more on oil than petrol.

Lol I paid for it. But i get your point and agree to some extent. 10 psi is running fine no knocking no leaning i think she'll be rite....the motor is fairly strong i was reading something on here about them making 67 rkws and to be honest if i can push it to 100 i'd be happy so i'll dyno it once the new box and center bearing is in...My last daily was an xf falcon s-pac crossflow with a big cam, headwork and extractors and i got 140 horsies atw which is roughly 100kw (104 i think) out of that untill the cam gear had the distributor gear for lunch .So i dont think 100kw is that far fetched. it has been retro fitted with the bullshit japanese emissions gear...like two million vacuum lines. All in all i wish i didn't buy this car, But if i'm stuck with it for now I'm gonna try and have some fun with it. when the gt-t's finished i'll be stoked.

edit- oh and it hasn't got the T3 on it anymore that carked it and has some cheap air research turbo, which is tiny.
