Bad Bad Engine Noise. Could anyone rectify it? Sound Clip provided

I am skeptical that it is a bearing. noise is no-where near consistent enough. Please start doing thorough testing and let us know what you find.

After further investigation the noise is changing quite a lot when putting the clutch in and out.

I am betting:
Loose pressure plate
Loose Flywheel
Broken fins on pressure plate
Maybe Thrust Bearing


I used loctite on all bolts, new toyota flywheel bolts were purchased as were new pressure plate bolts.

I did purchase a heavy duty clutch kit too.

Nah not at all, this car hasn't been driven since the original video. I just started it again to try rectify the noise some more.

I got a custom one made up from a company called disk brake and clutch

Hey mate,

I was tempted to take off the sump to have a look but on further inspection with the steteskope it was coming from the gearbox side, and the on and off transition with the clutch in was more obvious when i looked for it.

Gearbox off dude, and take some pics of the damage, sounds like maybe the throw out bearing has come adrift, they usually have wirey clipy type arrangements to hold them in place, maybe it wasn't quite clipped in properly.

I took it to a mechanic, he started it up and confirmed it a bearing was stuffed.

Looks like i'll be needing to get it rebuilt. Would you believe i just sold my spare 3sgte motor last week?

Bit of shocking news.....

The Mechanic mentioned that 2 of the Flywheel bolts were able to be removed with his fingers.

I've always feared this:

I can't see where I could have gone wrong.

1. I used a good quality Torque Wrench
2. I used High Strength Loctite on all the bolts
3. I used the recommended Tightening Sequence Order
4. I used brand new Toyota Flywheel Bolts

Good Question, my mate who was keeping it for me for quite some time required the space, and it was only fair to let it go and organise to rebuild mine instead.

Where the mating faces on the fly and crank perfectly clean and lined up straight, doesn't take much.

So it's just a loose flywheel? Or the bearings, as you stated the mechanic said?

Or he just got as far as the flywheel to realise it was that and not bearings.
