    Thanks oldcorolla

Yeah that's the CAS behind the radiator hose. I think the sensor is off a Daewoo or Isuzu GM family 2 engine. Inductive type. There is a fair bit of clearance between the sensor and belt.
Looking at the pulley the belt is in contact with at least a quarter of the pulley so one tooth missing should be no problem.

How about going a crank and cam sensor? I went with just the cam because it was simple and easy to implement.

One of the other ways we have set up crank triggers is to index the trigger wheel onto a spare v belt pulley on the balancer. This seems to work quite well for wasted spark.

What type of of cops are you going to use?

Here is a setup used on a VL turbo the spare AC pulley has been indexed.

The idea behind using a crank angle sensor with a 1 tooth cam sensor to determine stroke is that there is slop in the cam drive system. Belt driven systems don't seem to suffer as much, so you will get a decently accurate signal on a 4A for most RPM ranges, however on earlier engines, like my 18R-G, using the dizzy drive has proven to be terribly innacurate and won't give a good enough signal for throttle feathering at high RPM. This is where using a crank angle sensor becomes very worthwhile. When combined with a stroke sensor in the dizzy slot, this will allow full sequential ignition with a MegaSquirt 3 with MS3X

Hi guys - so quick update!

My TA22 running a MS is now fully engineered and registered! Did a little bit more tuning on Friday night. Played with the dwell and timing and it feels about 50% more powerful with less timing and lower dwell

I'll scrounge together a video of acceleration with the current tune..

    Cheers,

The cam gear setup seems to be working very well, the pattern on the scope and FSA are holding quite well. Only problems so far cam speed is quite slow at cranking so you need a good sensor and the angle update rate is 20 crank deg per tooth, where if it was mounted on the crank it would be 10 deg. But that's better then the distributor @ 180 crank deg per tooth.

Toyo-al have you had a chance to strap it onto a dyno yet or are you going to road tune it?

fwiw: I setup the older 18RTE to make the engine crank for 5 (and then just 3) revs before starting injection & spark. Helped with having more oil in & past the pump before the motor caught and revved into life. Was a bit tricky during cold weather (a few failed start attempts and it was either out with the battery charger or a hillstart ) but for an older engine with a dubious oil supply it made me feel a bit better.

When the battery was healthy, the longer cranking effort before starting fuel/spark does help smooth out (a bit) the wildly fluctuating revs that a cranking engine displays at a CAS.

    Hey there guyzz,
I'm looking into the whole megasquirt option for my 4agte, and it's good to see others using them with success.
I'm new to the whole DIY EMS thing, but am keen to give it a go and have been doing my research so that I don't f*ck it up.
I used to be scared of the whole "tune it yourself" option, but after some research it appears easier than I was led to believe.

Would be looking into the MS3 with 3x expansion pack.
    Coming soon.....

    Hi mate,

Haven't had a change to put her on a dyno yet. Might do these coming uni holidays. A mate who has spent a lot of time tuning ECU's in a workshop is road tuning it with me so that's good enough for now

placed a decent order on the weekend during their 18% off. Got the ms3+explansion board kits. coolant and air temp sensors (one for my a/w intercooler) mapdaddy, boost controller etc. They sell delphi injectors pretty cheap too, was thinking of going up from 880cc to 1000cc but no one wants to buy my 880s lol. Cant wait to get into building it and setting it up on my MR2.

just thought I'd ask again in case there were some new visitors to the thread:
    - am after a VE map for a standard 3SGE motor (gen1 ideally)

At the moment, I can find 3SGTE but not the NA examples that would really help me out (extrapolating 4-5 rows from the NA part of a turbo map is less than ideal). I'll have to tune the engine while running it in (this is for the RA65 in my sig) so any head-start on the tune would be helpful.

edit: even a 4AGE NA map would be helpful. It's not the same motor but the engineering fundamentals of the induction and combustion chamber are vaguely close - e.g. pentroof chamber, wide intake runners, valve angles.

    Charles.

No luck on MSEFI forum? Running in without a base map is a PITA, but possible.

Owen: there's a few 4AGEs but no 3SGE (except for a Lotus that runs MS for spark only) that I can find.

Just start with the auto generated map that TunerStudio does based on the required fuel calculations. I found this was all I needed to start my 4AGE and begin tuning it.

    Hi Guys

I plan to mod my dizzy like Toyo Als and add a jaycar Hall effect sensor to it. Only problem is my dizzy is a 24-1 tooth and his is a 24-4 tooth. Will i use the factory vr sensor for the 24 tooth wheel and the jaycar hall sensor for the single tooth wheel (home signal)?
