I'll get the suspension measured and adjusted. Its got 17"x8" SSR rims and I dont think the front end is liking them. I've lined up another set of rims to try out also.

I few wieird noises from the motor the other day - sounds like one of A/C / ALT / Pullys are on the way out. Nothing major yet, might do a full service this weekend.

Tyre size & type will make a much bigger difference than the wheels.
I really liked the Bridgestone RE001 225/45/17 i had on the car previously. My current Michelin Pilot Sport 2 225/45/17 are not quite as good, but should last twice as long.
But if you dont want the SSR's let me know, i would probably buy them from you.

A few noises and oil leaks are normal
Itll take almost a brand new / rebuilt engine to fix them all.

The gen3 rail is needed as well, as the gen2 rail had a smaller bore and didnt flow as much fuel.

Stopping these cars from understeering and moving to a more neutral grip isnt an easy task
the gen3 rail won't fit the gen2 head tho, he'll just have to either get his sent out to be bored, or if he doesn't want much down time i can lend you a spare i have to get bored out and give me your old one when the swaps done.

terry@ road and track can bore out the rail for you.

Hmmmm, I like the SSR's but if the other rims make it handle better --- then they will be sold.

I'll grab some details from Jonathan about the boring of the rail - hope that isn't too expensive.

It shouldnt be difficult for a decent machine shop to do it.
You should be able to find someone local.

It wont be easy finding better rims than those SSR's to clear the front brakes without running spacers. Perhaps try some 215's on the front instead of the 225?

I think your onto something spectre, its got 235's I think ? 215 may be better. Run a staggered setup (keeping the same overall size)

Yeah 235 or 225's all the way around. Something a little skinner at the front might do the trick. That and perhaps a good alignment.

Soo, just been checking the tyre sizes, Currently 235 50 17"

    New widths would be

    Rear 235/50R17
    Front 215/55R17

    Rear Overall Diameter: 666.75 mm
    Front Overall Diameter: 668.27 mm

Diameter Difference: - Diameter Difference: 0.23%

My only problem is that 8" rims and only 215 tyres isn't soo good, well not recommended.

I think that this will help with the clearance issues + understeer.

    Ideas?

i think 235/50r17 is bigger than the stock rolling dia. pretty sure i have 235/35r17 on mine and when i was taking over the pits i checked to make sure i wasn't gonna get reamed for them and they were bang on the right rolling dia.

dunno how much diff larger rolling dia would make to handling but the speedo will be out.

back when i was into mini's and people put 13's on over the stock 10 they said it ruined handling....?

I'm not too sure - but I think that the rolling dia is larger than stock. It might be that the 8" wide is causing some troubles too.

Stock rolling diameter is 215/50/15 - 596mm and I'm rather sure the current tires on the SSR's are 235/40/17. They are ever so slightly larger than the stock rolling diameter. If you don't care for sidewall, then sure, drop down to a 35 profile. But I wouldn't recommend it.

ah, 235/40 sounds better. unfortunately my eng died shortly after i installed my rear sway bar so i can't really comment on how it handled with 235/35 all round with the same size/offset rims as what you have.
