S54 gearbox question ? linkages

I'm thinking as long as it is an 'S" gearbox, externally they should be identical. As for ratios, i was under the impression that only the final drive ratios were different rather than individual gears? The difference is pretty obvious - adrian has a camry box behind his 3SGE, when i accelerate next to him off the mark up to 80km/h (changing gears at the redline) he's in 3rd gear while i'm still in 2nd.

Yeah i don't think they changed the gear ratios, only the final drive - but again I won't know until i pull the other gearbox out and measure it all up.
