    Default W5* swapping shifter positions

    first of all, yes i googled as i always do but i seemed to get dead links or forums that required sign up.

    im probably going to have to swap to rear most non remote shift position according to the interwebs for the manual in my conversion.

    Q: what parts are needed to swap shifter positions?

    im wanting to go to a rear most non remote shifter, i currently have a midish one at the moment.

    do i only need the above parts?
    * rear most lever/stick
    *rear most shift housing

    ol mate thinks that the whole extension housing and linkages need to be changed?

    thanks

    I have answered it many times so the info is out there...

    Firstly, I cant see your pic at work so will try to explain what you need to do. Secondly, this only applies to non-remote gearboxes (eg, not JZA80 W58s) as there is reports of different sized bearings but because I havent tinkered with them Im not sure for certain.

    Anyway - firstly, have you got the W58 manual yet? If not yet, click here to download the MA70 manual transmission TSRM (3.5Mb pdf)

    Taken from this link - http://www.supras.org.nz/techinfo/TSRM/Default.htm

    Have a look at the manual for the exact steps but the basics are that you have to remove the rear half of the gearbox (extension housing) and swap the metal arm (shift lever housing). You will also need to swap the top alloy piece (shift lever control retainer). The actual shifter/lever is the same for all W5x models and you only need to change those two parts.

    The two parts are shown above to the right of the two Toyota Parts bags. The shift lever control retainer is in line with the top bag and the lever housing is the bottom

    You can see more info on how I did my manual conversion in my ride thread and how everything lines up and should for yours regardless of engine differences.

    thanks for the reply. exactly the info i needed.

    i showed the above pic to the old man and he actually had the parts in the shed.

    i swapped it over today, very easy job, took about 30mins but i cleaned up all the bolts and also changed the rear output seal and used gasket goo. would have been a 10min job otherwise
