    Default Difference in R154 shifter positions ..

    Hi, as the title says i am aware the shifter position changed in the R154 boxes depending on what model car they came out in, what i am after is ( hopefully someone know's ) is the total length of the gearboxes from the front edge of the bell housing to the shifter position for the 2 or 3 different types that are out there .. Its for a conversion that i am doing & its going to go behind a 2JZGTE .. I need to try & work out which box is going to be more suitable for my needs ..

    Thanks in advance ..

    Rob ..

    I can offer some information...

    I'm aware of the following shifter positions

    -->Most forward:
    MA70 / JZA70: ~660mm from xJZ bellhousing face to center of shifter hole
    JZZ30 Early (Non-remote): Slightly further back than MA70 / JZA70, ~20mm at a guess?
    JZZ30 Remote: ~90-95mm further back than MA70/JZA70 at a guess
    JZX110: Does not bolt up directly to 'early' R154... i.e. JZA70 R154... see below pics (Hole do NOT line up). Put the shifter in pretty well the same position as JZZ30 Remote when modded to fit 'earlier' R154 using rear holes.
    -->Most rear:

    Note that there are 2 different JZZ30 shifter positions, the early 91-93 in housing shifter position and 93-00 late remote shifter position.
    The early shifter position is similar to the MA70/JZA70 pictured above but some 5-10mm further back and the late model is a remote setup positioned similar to the JZX110 pictured above.

    Tis a good question, and one that I looked into without any sucess...

    There are a number of slightly different rear extension housings (i.e. JZX110 is different to JZA70 at least...)... some have provision for the offset gearbox mount, some done... bosses for remote shifter location etc...

    I couldn't get a definite outcome as to if the inner selector shaft was the same or if one needed to buy / acquire that as well... and if it would actually all just swap over...

    Cheers

    Out of all the R154 boxes i have seen if you want to use the remote shifter on a early box then you have to buy the gearbox extension housing to suit the remote shift , as wilbo said some boxes have the mounting bosses on the box for the remote shifter and some dont . I havent seen a early MA70 JZA70 with the bosses . Maybe the early JZZ soarer box had the bosses?

    Thanks, really useful post - i'm trying to determine whether I can use my non-remote shifter R154 in my JZX100 - from what i've read I can't, but I want to measure up to see where the shifter will come up just in case.

    Look at modifying it to turn it around?

    i.e. Turn the shifter section 180deg....
