Default Oil pressure drops to 0 when cornering hard

As stated the oil pressure in my 1ggte nearlly drops to 0 when you corner really hard. It was slightly down on oil, so i filled it up, which only made it slightly better.

Also what oil pressures to people get at idle and at cruising speed in there 1Gs ?

    cheers

Need some baffles in the oil pan.

Sounds like the bearing clearances are also opening up a bit, from the usual wear and tear.

since no-one else is venturing.. cruise maybe 40-60psi as a guide? less than 30-40 would not be a good indicator.
does it happen cornering in both directions?

    Based on what facts? Lol...

10psi per every 1000 RPM is an O.K rule of thumb to live by.

8psi at idle is fine and 20psi at cruise (say 1600rpm) is fine also.

Unfortunately the above numbers mean nothing if the Oil Pressure gauge is not reasonably accurate.

You need to ensure you have enough oil around the pick up at all times. I run 1ltr over full level, but it is to cover extreme cornering on a track.
Check the sump is not bashed in and restricting flow. Also check other things as mentioned above.

Oh yeah abently, if any of my engines were to run as low as 8psi at idle, it would be out stripped down and rebuild before something expensive went bang - road car included. Your rule of thumb sux, I run engines to 9,000 applying your rule would be 90psi, you better rithink that before offering this advice to anyone else.

30psi idle to 65psi when the relief valve opens (approx 4,000 rpm) is the rule, no exceptions. Anything below this means worn bearings, failed pump or leaking relief valve.

my nissan got to a "max pressure" and fairly well stayed at that. i guess that would be because of the pressure relief valve regulating the pressure or it would continue to climb as the revs did.

it sits at around 50psi at anything above 2k rpm.

The weird thing is it used to have excellent oil pressure like 50Psi + while cruising, until i blew the head gasket, and got the head port n polished, it has been low ever since. It Only nearlly drops to zero when really throwing the car in hard. The sump is modified to fit in a hilux, an because of this the pick up has been spun around to suck oil from the deeper part of the sump.

Is it possible that some head gasket gunk has got stuck on the oil gallerys? When i was getting off the old head gasket i was heaps careful and even used a vaccum to suck up any muck that fell into the galleries. The only other thing i can think of is that when the car was running before it was winter, and now its much warmer and using 10W-40 might be to thin weight oil?

The half cut had 100,000ks on it, and i havent done many Ks on it, maybe like 3000 of which half was at 18psi of boost. I comp tested when it was only half up to operating temp and it read 150psi across all 6 cylinders.

Tomorrow ill try a thicker weight oil and over fill the sump a bit.

My race engine runs 8psi when at warm idle, and off the scale to the point of blowing up gauges and spitting out oil filter seals. It put it down to 5w oil i run, and tolerances too tight on the crank (recently been lined bored). Yes the weight of the oil makes a big difference on idle and cruise oil pressure. I have ported the crap out of my pressure relif valve and spring, if I did any more I would I have no oil. 3tgt are notorious for high oil pressure but I think my engine builder has made it worse.

Certainly not saying this is ideal, time will see how long it lasts

If I change to 15-20w oil I do have 30psi at idle when warm 65psi when cold.
