no, was using 10w-30 then changed to 20w-50 to see if it would slow the oil burning, which it did. Doesnt smoke on startup at all. Only smokes under load, i had a friend behind me when going up a hill but it was at night, he said it spewed out smoke, but he didnt know the colour. Ill get around to doing a comp test, prob best idea atm.

That was my experience too. Rings, big end and main bearings for about $200 all up, bottom end gasket kit for about the same money, over $600 for a genuine vrs kit.

They couldn't find a listing for a complete rebuild kit, are you sure it wasn't just a bottom end set you were been priced on?

Back on topic: I'm with foamy - it sounds like valve stem seals but is worth further investigation before launching into that kind of job.

What happened with this? I have a motor that's doing a similar thing where it blows blue smoke at high rpm but none at start up.

If it's valve stem seals, it will only smoke on decelleration when there's manifold vacume (sucking oil out thru the stem seals and into the ports).

Black smoke under acceleration is usually due to overly rich mixtures.

Blue/White smoke is oil being burnt.

    White normally coolant / water...

Best way to find out 100% is stick a bore scope down and have a squiz and see if the valves are wet , and condition of bores etc.

Mine will start to blow just a little bluw smoke high up in the rev range but when you take your foot off and then get back into the throttle is when she seems to blow the most smoke. This is in neutral with no load on the motor. I can't really see any smoke whilst i'm driving it but I haven't really had anyone follow me to confirm.
