From what I understand a bit of burning oil is perfectly normal on a brand new engine. If its still blowing smoke after 100ks it might be a problem, but after 10ks I wouldn't stress. If anything its an excuse to go out and thrash it hard.
bit of a thread bump. I driven around a couple of times round the block up some hills etc prob not even 10k's but i'm getting some large clouds of blue smoke on start up
So its obviously burning some oil on start up havent checked the dip stick yet though. But is this something that should stop once the rings wear in a bit more??
As they say in the book, assembly is the reverse of dismantling, but slower cos you forgot where all the bits are

Did you replace everything.. Etc stem seals etc? Or jus refresh the bottom end?
valves where re seated and i'm fairly certain stem seals where done. i'll keep driving it for a while and see if the problems go.
can any of those "stop smoke" oil additives help if the problem doesn't go away?

Nah, the stop smoke additives are for old worn engines where rings/seals are farked from age, and just thicken up the oil.
See how she goes with a few more kms under the belt. Give her some good berries through the mid range though.

10kms isn't nearly enough time for the engine to bed in. Give it a bit of stick (load up the engine) for a few hundred kms and you should be fine.
yeah every time i've driven round the block etc i've given it a fair bit... well as much as 33kw of power will get me.

'I've scrapped better.' John stated when asked about the car by the guy with the silver tipped cowboy boots!
Thread Hijack:
Should I run in my new gze with or without the SC14 switched on? ie boost or no boost?
With boost, just limit your right foot activity to ensure you don't red line it or drop skiddz. The extra pressure of the boost on the rings will help them to bed better.
