I'd bet you feel the engine makes good power too...

Valve stems would be my bet if i had to put money on it.

i had this problem and it turned out to be shit fuel believe it or not... customer came back with the car after i replaced the head gasket a week later and it was pissing out smoke like you couldnt believe..

i hung a jerry can from the bonnet and let it feed the engine from there and the smoke went in less than 10 minutes.. tho obvious if your running the efi gear you cant do that, this was a 8v 1.6 carby sierra..

make sure the pcv valve is clean, correct level of oil etc, bores can glaze over time obviously they wont glaze straight away..

pandaah, hidden in the posts by Mr 0.5JZ is an indication the motor is carby fed... so your method should work for him. Worth a shot, it isn't a hard test to perform.

Mr 0.5JZ, is there any oil in the intake tract?? Check in the runner after the PCV feed.

Definitely doesn't have shit fuel...tank was cleaned and drained 3 months ago after I sunk it in a river always has been run on ultimate 98 since then

I gt drunk last night and couldnt be f'ed workin on a car I'll check the pcv's on the weekend

Someone suggested lifting the dipstick and checking for smoke as the crankcase would be getting pressurized...this sounds like a good idea for checking for blown rings..it's worth noting that the dipstick hasn't moved or popped out this whole time either

I would personally say it sounds like the oil rings as has been mentoned before ..

I'm curious that when you mentioned that you ran heavier oil the engine was a fair bit slower, what oil weight did you use ? i personally have never noticed oil viscosity changing how a engine ran ( obviously within reason ) ..

I switched from a 10w-30 to a 45w-70 when you are only playing with 45rwkw it's enough to make a noticeable difference
