Default 1JZ big (ish) single on stock ecu?

    Evening gents

Have tried searching, and haven't really found any answer to this question, forgive me if its been covered in a thread somewhere. Let me start by saying that I am fully aware that aftermarket management is and always will be the best solution here, but the car is my daily, so i don't have a burning need to blow shitloads of cash on it if i don't need to. My turbos are stuffed, and in the interest of not feeling like setting the car on fire out of frustration, thought a single swap would be a good idea..

So - i was wondering if anyone has or is aware of the results of running a single of similar effective sizing to stock twins (ie, capable of 240rwkw odd at 18psi or whatever) - with the stock ecu.

While i'm at it, if there are experienced 1JZ'ers reading this - interested to know where you sourced your single manifold and cost. Even if i'm game to try my luck with an egay one, they are all T4 flanged..

    Thanks
    Bardin

gt30 .82 would probably be your best bet. Manifold wise you could use the standard manifolds and make a 2 to 1 collector. I've got a a 35r .82 rear on a standard ecu that's making over 300hp on only 14psi but it's a little laggy really depends on how much lag you can handle.

No problems running on the stock ecu with a big single. Be worthwhile investing in a piggy-back fuel controller to trim the fuel if you want to turn the boost up a bit though. I had some left in it with a big single 1 bar at 240rwkw but i had no boost controller to wind it up.
If money is the root of all evil.... then why do they pass the collection plate around in church

Can't say i'm overly keen on a 35r, 30r probably more suitable.. Not keen on shitloads of lag. Does anyone do the y-pipes off the shelf anymore? The only place i found in an old thread on toymods doesn't exist anymore..

I was even thinking the 30r might be a bit laggy, but it doesn't seem many people use anything smaller

Good to hear. Its probably inevitable i'll end up getting a piggyback of some sort, but if i can at least spread out the money i'm not supposed to be spending on it, then i won't feel so bad about it

    Thanks for the replies gents

ebay manifolds are perfectly fine for this job... mine cost me about $400 after being cleaned up and braced and having a different wastegate flange welded on (tial 44mm)

a GT35R with a .63 rear will have you boosting nice and early and give you pleanty of poke...
mate has one on his supra...

myself i have an ebay copy T04Z but am yet to get a tune into it so cannot boost it... however it starts to make positive pressure from under 3000rpm...

Some of them are certainly cheap enough even factoring in bracing them and tidying up, one of them is all of $140 landed... But they are all t4 and external gate, neither of which i want / need.. At that price its not unfeasible fixing both of these things however. Prefer to get a name brand turbo of some sort, even if its KKR, don't quite have the balls to run an ebay turbo

What about running one of these?

you can buy t3 ones from tripple 9 automotive i believe...

in theory for $140 you could have a t3 flange welded on and the wastgate pipe blocked of/deleted cleaned and braced for $400...

my manifold itself cost like 200 or so for a t4 flanged one...

GT3037 is basically a garrett GT3076R AFAIK and the .82 a/r is the go for a 1j streeter IMO. Internal gates mean you can save on buying an external one and plumbing up exhaust/screamer. As long as the internal gates can flow enough (unlike the xr6t gt35's) then that turbo looks good.

You can get t4-t3 adaptors as well. Or some people just weld a t3 flange on top of a t4 one. Obviously not the best for flow but if you want a cheap way of doing it, that is it

They list only a t4 one on ebay, at $450 delivered thats pushing my faith in ebay stuff, bit rich if i still need to brace it and whatnot.. Why do t3 manifolds seem the exception rather than the norm?

Thanks, that helped with a bit of googlage, and you are on the same line of thinking as me as far as not wanting the extra stuffaround and expense of external gate / custom dump and whatnot. Ebay sellers don't seem to agree

Might send you a PM in a tick actually

Thanks for the link, but not pumped to buy a new turbo if i'm honest, because of the cost.. I'll settle for good condition secondhand..

garret do a 500hp (roughfly) bush bearing turbo looks similar to a gt30/35 i have sold about 6 of them your looking at about $900 brand new (and yes they are garrett not chinese come direct from garrett australia) come with 360 degree thrust bearings and a choice of .63 .82 1.0 exhaust housings, we put one o a 1jz with standard computer and works beautifly. also used one on a 3rz and made 350rwhp on 14psi. will see if i can find the rest of the specs if your interested

thats the one we put on the 1jz with standard computer i think it made about 300rwhp on 15psi, i just checked price to and can do one for $875 think they retail for $1050 garret made them to compete with the likes of the kkr480

Sounds decent enough to me, oddly enough the kkr480 was something i was considering, do you have the model number or anything?
