    Default 4age water pump strangeness

I think I have been issued an incorrect water pump.

I ordered a GMB 4AGE RWD water pump and I think I have been given one that is different as my gilmer pulley bolt hole spacing is different to what is on the pump. I have been sent a GMB part number 170-1630 which I have found is for a 1985 - 1989 MR2.

I thought all these had similar pulleys anyway? Can someone give me the correct GMB part number for a RWD 4AGE pump? or point me in the direction of any RWD 4age pump for that matter?

I wasn't aware that there were any major differences with these water pumps for all 4AGE;s though.

And also as requested by you the p/n and pulley pcd for my fwd 4age pump.

These are the only numbers on the box.

And the pcd measured to the next closest, inside edge to outside edge is approx 39.5 mm.

Fwd ones do have a different offset and a different bearing to support a fan AFAIK.

I am aware of the fwd ones having a different offset and bearing to the rwd ones, but I thought the PCD was the same? I will now measure what the gilmer pulley pcd is by means of the same method as you have done and will post up the measurement.

I get approx 39.5mm too for my gilmer pulley, this makes me glad as I was fearing that I had maybe been sent an incorrect pulley.

My "MR2 4AGE" GMB water pump however has a PCD of around 35mm though????

Can someone explain this as I thought PCD's were the same?

I had this exact problem about a week ago. Out of interest, where did you get the pump from?

Mine was for a smallport 4AGE. The pump fitted to the engine had a PCD of 55mm, whereas my new pump was 50mm. (Dimension is hole centre to centre, diagonally.) The overall height was the same, so no FWD/RWD mixup.

It was suggested a 4AFE pulley would solve my problems, but no. Never checked the PCD as the offset was obviously different. Ended up just redrilling the pulley to fit.

I dont want to redrill my pulley, instead I am thinking I would just re-drill the pump and when it fails replace it with a known correct one. Either that or bin it and get one now anyway.

I tried a 4afe pulley too to no avail, it didnt fit.

It came from E-gay I think.............can't remember to be honest.

It stated to be for a 1985 to 1989 MR2.

I found another place that sells them online, here is their link

    http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/de...MB1701630.html

they too state that it is for a 1985-1989 MR2????

I wonder if those MR2's had water pump pulleys with different PCD's ?

WP1063 GMB brand is what i have on my ae82 bigport fwd motor. that is what was listed.

check this link and the waterpumps here:
    http://www.repcotrade.com.au/files/d...pCatalogue.pdf

Repco brand water pumps are almost exact copies of GMB's. (Repco also sell GMBs so maybe give a Repco a call and get someone useful there to measure the pcd over the ph for you)

id be looking at these pumps as possibilities (PICS ARE IN THE PDF LINK): WP 5003, 3039, 1058, 3084

Ohh and if you want a repco brand pump instead of gmb for some reason when you speak to them the repco brand part has "RP" on end of each part number) i.e Wp5003RP

If you called me ( i work at repco part time) i'd happily help u sort this, but im not doing many shifts atm. )

    thanks for the help AUST162

the GMB 1063 that dang has is the one I will probably roll with.

I would really just like to know exactly what this new pump I have fits to so that I can sell it or give it away to someone who is actually going to use it!

Can anyone confirm the details of the one that I have and what car it is meant to fit to? Again, the part number I have is 170-1630.

I sourced mine through the boys at the local Repco, the shop I work in sources most of its daily parts and consumables from them so when it comes to bits n pieces for our own buses we get looked after.

I reckon Aust162 should be able to sort it out for you.

And as for e-gay for parts....fairly hit and miss at times.
