hello,
just had my ms83 crown wagon dropped off today. it is fitted with a 7mge and apparently the auto from the 5m. the car was towed to my house, however when i went to drive it up the drive way, the gearbox was just slipping. i had to bring up the rpm to around 3000 before it started moving....slowly. i checked the trans fluid and it does seem to be quite high. the bloke also said that when he moved the car from his garage that there was a pool of trans fluid. im thinking maybe it is too full? would this cause it too slip??
second part of my question is, is there a later model auto gearbox with the same mounts and dimensions that will allow me to bolt it straight it without changing tailshaft length etc etc
The A43DE from an MX73 Cressida will probably bolt in, but it needs electronics to control it, and they are getting 25 years old now.
The A43DL from an MA61 Supra will also bolt in, but they are even older than the MX73's.
An A340E from an MX83 Cressida would be the best solution, but that needs tailshaft mods as well as electronics.
As for the fluid level, in my experience overfilling will just cause leaks, but not affect the box greatly.
There isn't a huge gap between full and overfull.
You did check the fluid level with the engine running?
