    Default Earls 230106/8 Fuel filters are not suitable for EFI Use

    I’ll been chasing a suitable EFI filter and was handed the below Earls unit stating from the shop that it's suitable for use on EFI. I futher enquired about this unit to Earls support in NSW and they also said it should be fine, but was not confident in their response.

    After i visited this site http://www.anplumbing.com/shop/index...t=Fuel!_Filter , which states the filter is NOT suitable for EFI, i sent them an email requesting a more in-depth reason why it shouldn't be used in EFI setups, and i received the following response (from the CEO to my surprise);

    Regarding P/N 230106 Feel Free to use this email to post anywhere.

    1. They wont handle the higher pressure EFI performance systems long term.

    2. They dont flow well enough at a 1" cannister. They need to be twice that size at a minimum to flow well enough for EFI hi perf systems in race applications

    3. Once they start to capture dirt they flow even worse.

    4. After a certain amount of time of reduced flow due to dirt or the inherent restriction they will lean out the motor in extreme performance conditions. In some cases it may even lead to extreme lean out to create pre detonation, melt pistons etc etc....

    5. We are coming out with a new filter for you guys in January that will solve this issue

    The only other person that would advise on this filter would be Kevin at Earls manufacturing facility and he will tell you the same thing.
    I dont know who at Earls is giving you mixed information but I would like to know who they are. Please advise

    Thanks
    Tom Neely

    Now let me be very clear on the subject. This is not a slander on the Earls products as they are very reputable. It’s to inform you guys that if you're using this filter (comes in various sizes including -6, -8 and barbed ends) in your EFI setup, to consider finding another solution until Earls release their EFI filter solution early next year.

    I use the big long style mesh filters for high flow applications.
    They are around 250mm long 40mm-50mm in diameter. I can get them for $140NZD .

    On the subject of replacement fuel filters try the BOSCH 0450905030 or F5030 for short, its a 3\8 barbed inline filter but its about 3 1\2 in round and has an internal bypass valve and superfine micron rating synthetic media, use one on my 1UZ afer the 044 or 040 external pump, i just use a plastic ryco filter from the tank to my lift pump.
