    Default Jzz30 1jzvvti OBD2 question

    Hey guys,
I have been searching here and elsewhere to find out if the Jzz30 1jz vvti came out with an OBD2 plug.

I have 1jz vvti in my 96 supra and want to look at some onboard diagnostics/stats from a car pc.

    Cheers Mike

I don't believe they do. They just have the standard toyota diagnostics plug under the dash and in the engine bay.

Take a quick look though. It should be up under the drivers footwell somewhere but after much searching myself I gave up on such an idea.

yeh, i havent come across it in the wiring that came with the motor. I'm happy to get a female plug and
wire it into the ecu, but i need to make sure the ecu will output a obd2 signal.

this thread talks about supras and 2jz engines and how to wire them up. I guess my main question is.... is there a SDL pin on the ecu of a 1jz vvti? I have located a VF pin but on the diagrams i have there isnt a SDL.

Mine came from Japan and it does have the SIL pin and obd2 as well. Turned out that it's a kind of non-standard signal, for example it has baud rate at 9400 bps.

    hey george,
do you have any more info on the pinout for this? do you know what pins i can check to see if they are there for the obd2 cable? all i need to know is where the SDL pin is.

Can you explain the non-standard signal you mentioned? does this mean the obd2 doesnt work properly?
    Cheers Mike

First of all draw or photograph the diag connector located under the dash. I will mark the pin you need. Different cases are possible but most likely pin 7 will be present which will mean K-line physical protocol (and thus the kind of computer adapter).

Nonstandard bitrates and datastreams were reported for Japanese market cars. We do have in Russia enthusiasts and their forums where software is made and datastreams are decoded for some JDM cars, including Toyotas. I don't know current state of the problem for 1jz-ge 'cause mine seems to work fine so far. I would send you the latest software I occasionally happened to download but still haven't tried. It's not in English unfortunately, but it is reported to work with obd2 jdm toyotas.

Overall, I find it more useful to read the codes output by the warning light and put some comprehension

    Hi George,
    thanks for the reponse again.
my diagnostic port is like this - the one under the dash is the circular one.
    http://alexserp.nm.ru/Vista/poleznosti/Connectors1.jpg

i have an odb2 --> usb cable and i can get a female odb connector. I know how to wire up most of it, but the SDL pin has got me.

Im happy to try the software you have even if it is in russian...

I'm not after any diagnostic type work, im purely trying to set this up to view real time data.. i.e. speed, tacho, water temp, oil temp, pressure, fuel consumption etc etc... i want to run it all through a car PC.

Looks odd to me. Maybe because I've seen only JZ's taken from Mark2/Chaser/Crown cars. These VVTI engines had DLC3 connectors in their wiring, which contains the SIL pin. Your connector is a DLC2 type and as far as I know it does not contain OBD2 signal.

p/s just had a brief look at JZZ30 ECU pinout. It does not contain SIL pin as well. To my previous experience every vvti engine was obd2 compliant, sorry to mislead you
