    Default SC14 question

Does anyone know, is it possible to run an SC14 on an engine, but upside down?

I only ask because i have a previa SC14 which has the mounts on the opposite side for the 4AGZE. I can make custom mounts, but assuming the direction of spin of the SC14 is the same, will it operate properly upside down? Can this cause lubrication problems?

    Any help appreciated. Thanks guys.

The oil chamber is symetrical, so oiling won't be a problem.
You could probably even unbolt and turn the oil housing by 180 degrees to allow the dipstick and oil drain plug to still work.

Other than that, there will be no other operational difference.

Wont the inlet and outlet be back to front? So will have to pipe up differently...

You can swap them over with minor mods to the bolt holes..

    Thanks guys.

Piping won't be a problem because i'm making it all from scratch anyway.

I was wondering about the backing plate. It looks like it will turn through 180 no problems.

I'll give it a go anyway.

My point is the s/c outlet will be engine side, but I guess the OP has found how to put it together. What's it going in by the way?

Looks like the back plate won't turn 180, bolt holes don't all quite match up. Should be able to tap stuff...

The outlet being engine side won't matter cause like i said, i'm making new pipes up for everything anyway. I'm putting it in my AW11 but i'm going over to a N/A intake manifold cause the S/C one is rubbish. I'm still making brackets for the mounting. I'll do a small write-up here after i'm finished.

And the bolt holes on the back cover. I'm sure that can be modified. Looks like they all line up except for that offset one, so i assume two bolt holes need to be modified.

I've got a million projects at the moment. This one is a side project. I'm building all the brackets on my spare engine, then i'm going to convert everything over to the car next year. Should eventually mean less down-time without the car on the road, hopefully.

    Thanks again guys.

I'm interested, as I'll be doing a similar thing (N/A intake manifold with an SC14 on my Levin).
I'll be getting my brackets cnc'd etc and keeping my charger the right way around.

Get the other SC14, not the previa type. I'm told they are much easier to fit.

Yep, got the 1GGZE SC14, and it's sitting there all rebuilt ready to be installed once the 4AGZE comes out the Levin.

What size is the pulley on the 1GGZE SC14? The previa one is 110mm.

I've heard that the 1GGZE type is slightly larger, maybe 115mm?

How do you mean rebuilt? Bearings? Be careful! I used force to undo the bolts that go through the synchronising gears in order to dissassemble an SC14 - I jammed the rotors with a rag. After 'porting' the in/outlets of the case (feeble experiment on my part with no knowledge of why the inlets and outlets are the shape they are - who hasn't done shit like this at least once) the supercharger was bloody noisey. I can only guess the rotors need resynchronising and that the steel shafts going through the rotors castings moved a tiny amount relative to the rotors causing an intereference problem - there was no 'assembly error' as such as I'd marked the gears teeth and shaft positions so they could be reassembled exactly the same way......Cheers.

Got it all sorted and worked out, even to the setting of the lobe clearance from the end plate and the clutch clearance.

I have worked out how to rebuild the entire supercharger, save the unobtanium front bearings and recoating the lobes.
