    Default 3sgte conversion question

hey all is great to finaly be able to post. but a bit off a noob question for my first post. i am about to do a 3sgte gen2 conversion in to a st162 and am planing on useing my gearbox for now (it's got the lsd) think it's the s53 with the starter moter on the left hand side under the extracters. which leads me to my question.

will the starter moter still fit there once i swaped blocks with the turbo fiting on top or do i need a e51 box or can i get a bellhouseing of a camry or something similer that had 3sfe or 3sge in it to suit my box or even modify it like this crazy dutch man has http://www.superwhite2.com/ST162/deel34/deel34.htm (link below to rest of the picks).

any help would be much apreciated cheers

is worth a look just for the pics http://www.tccn.nl/st162/

that gearbox wont live behind a turbo engine for long, but a proper plate type LSD (not the stock toyota torsen one) will help by stopping excess wheel spin on 1 wheel. I know a few folk have got away with it, but I've also fixed heaps of them. you cant just swap bellhousings. the correct solution is a 2WD converison of a GT4 box. done a few. www.roadandtrack.net.au

highly unlikely that your S53 has an LSD in it (unless it was fitted aftermarket). The common option for this conversion is to use a Camry / 5th or 6th gen Celica S54 box with the outboard starter position (slightly longer ratios, but that's ok for the turbo engine). They seem to hold up ok, but its really relative to how you drive. The other alternative is to fit up an E153 box (double synchros and occasionally LSD), but it isn't a bolt-in job - invlovles a little bit of creative fabrication to work in a ST162.

People have done it the way that terry suggests (welding up the transfer case on the GT4 box?) but it doesn't have any advantage over the camry box - they still break plus you're lugging around all the dead weight left over from the 4WD system.

But anyway, search the forums man - this conversion has been done to death and there is shag loads of information here, on celicatech.com and ozcelica.com. Try using GT2 as the search keyword.

mmmmmmm as Andy said, i would recomend using the S54 box, i had it in my old GT2, the ratios are fine for the turbo use, the boxes are cheap,
but yeh theres heaps of pages on this already done, try searching in the 162 thread.

only thought it had lsd because it cut duels on a 5grand launch. any way i knew the box isnt going to hold up for long but was just wondering if i can use it for now (i'll upgrade the drive line once i got the motor in at a later stage) thanks for all the help

maybe its cuting twins cause its f**ked, they tend to do strange things when theyve had a hard life. even an open wheeler will spin 2 occasionly.

they'll be no 5000rpm launchs with the gte engine haha not unless you want to go nowhere, traction is not your friend with a boosted fwd.
