Default New timming belt noise Issues ST204

I've just had a proffesional workshop install a new timing belt and pulleys seals etc (all the stuff you find in a full Gates Kit) and a new GMB water pump , it all runs fine until the engine is at normal running temp then I'm getting a fgrub- fgrub- fgrub- fgrub noise from the timing belt end of the engine , this is not supper loud but obviously something isn't quite right , I can't feel any vibration in the upper timing belt cover that corresponds to this noise , does anybody know what might be causing this noise or have experianced a similar thing ?

I had it back to the workshop and you guessed it--" This noise is normal".

It dosen't do it cold and it didn;t do it before the new belt was fitted.

That noise will happen when a pulley is out of round causing the belt to cycle from tight to too tight or loose to too loose. Re-tighten the belt when it it's at the high point & at its tightest.
Sure it's not coming from one of the others?
Used a piece of hose to pinpoint the source?
'I've scrapped better.' John stated when asked about the car by the guy with the silver tipped cowboy boots!

I had this on my 3SFE recently and after discussing it with a service manager, the following worked.

1/. Start and run engine until HOT
    2/. Removed top engine mount.
3/. Removed rubber grommet in top timing cover.
4/. Turn engine over clockwise until top dead centre.
5/. Loosen the locking bolt on idler pulley.
6/. Turn engine over two full rotations CLOCKWISE (i.e. in the direction it normally turns).
7/. At TDC lock up idler pulley.
    8/. Test start and run.
9/. if it still howls a bit do the above one more time.

If it still grubs take top cover off and inspect the belt when running and the aligment and trueness of the cam pulley/pulleys.

Another thing that makes noises in that area is misaligned cam cogs.

Seeing they did it take it back if unsure..

After a couple days mine settled back in, the chamfer and distortion I had made cleaned up and belt is quiet.

S/M said leaving belt too tight too long it will stuff water pump really quickly
and I notice mine now rattles when cold, so my fault.

    2 cents.

Thanks mighty RT104GT absolutely sterling advice.

Took it back to the repairers, again, and was told it's nothing to worry about give it a few hundred to settle in etc etc.

Went home put my lazeys on hold and got stuck in and two hours later the noise is nearly totaly gone , I'll run it for a couple of days and if what little there is left is still there I'll do it again.

Just a word of warning to others, get engine mounts on the body started before the bolts on the engine mounts , dunno about the 3FSE but if you do it the other way round on the 5S- FE you'll be wishing you hadn't.

did you let the work shop know you managed to fix the noise they couldn't be bothered. and that you'll never got back there again?
As they say in the book, assembly is the reverse of dismantling, but slower cos you forgot where all the bits are

Nah , I haven't been in touch with them , it's sad realy , they've done a bit of work for me , I always pay cash on the spot and this is the second timing belt they've stuffed up on this year , the first was a Gates Racing (blue) belt in a Skyline R34GT-t , they overtensioned it , same thing , noisy as soon as the car was hot, took it back 3 times tilll they got it right.
Guess I'll be looking for a new workshop now , can't have my time wasted again like this in future.
Lucky though , so far they aint broken anything.
