honda do this for motorbike motors.

I am just waiting on my crank balancing, then will be ordering.
if they linish or otherwise grind the crank, the number code on the crank will be wrong.

Find the TSRM for your engine as it should have the tolerances that relate to those marks.

cool ! when i pulled my motor down i thought it was made up of spares ! ( we used to stamp all the rods and mine were full of 2 s, except no 2 ! )
time consuming and messy but you could order one bearing and a packet of plastigauge ,then order bearings to suit but hey if the crank looks worn its gonna be more than a few thou
and im sure youd send it off

The rod caps are not marked, only the crank caps are marked.
You will have to keep the rods in order and mark them.

And plastigauge will not work. Your talking about 0.6 of a Thou! between the smallest bearing to the biggest. Plastigauge only works in 0.5 of a thou increments, even then its not super accurate its just to make sure you have around x clearance.
You will def need a inside and outside mic if you want the specs to be bang on.

Well, I ordered before seeing this post. My crank has been linished. Should I be concerned? I ordered exactly what was stamped onthe back of the Main bearings 2, 3, 3, 3, 4...

A quick polish or linish should not really effect it that much at all. I would not be too concerned. Just points of a thou more clearance.
