    Right??
I mainly use my airtemp sensor for ignition timing correction.
My fuel correction map is fairly flat (except at the extremes)

Yup, but in reality air temp only effects fuel and timing by a couple of %.
... im just saying that not having one isnt a danger to the engine. If the car is tuned without it, itll be tuned safe enough that higher temps wont cause any issues.

Coolant temp plays a much larger role.

It was more painful than walking on glass trying to find one locally last time as most places here are staffed by useless kents. Prices were wayyyyy more than Craig quoted above too, I'd love to grab one for $15.

If you find the metric ones locally for a reasonable price let me know.

If nothing turns up I'll just grab one from Haltech online.
One of the problems with being an accountant is I keep everything (receipts included). Got mine in 2003 from Autopro for $15.50 - rang autopro to get a new price but they could not get a reference. Rang Commonwealth Motors to fimd that a VT one is $15.

Shit I shouldn't have said anything - could have made a few bob from selling them off for $30.

v.true - i guess I have just erred on the side of extreme caution in my thinking. <blush>

My oldsetup (draw-thru carbi) was very air-temp-reactive. With it's fairly aggressive timing, it would easily ping when driving in peak-hour traffic but in cool air such as a highway night run, it was highly responsive.

I have air temp and water temp calibration tables for the delphi gm sensors, kicking about somewhere if you need them

    Hah.
Its probably something as simple as TEMP = ADC * 10 - 5.

    Yup, Microtechs really do suck.

I think this contradicts your earlier post? If it is tunned without the IAT sensor it will be tunned with an cold (open circuit, large resistance) air temp, the ecu will be adding more fuel from the base map to account for the "cold" air?

If you then add the add temp sensor back in, the ecu the ecu will lean out those values for the hotter IAT sensor and you could run lean. Does that sound right?

Wolf EMS also has these sensors for about $40 inc shipping but i'm not sure about the threads?

If you unplug the sensor the Microtech realises this and disables the correction map.

Just dropped into Holden spare parts. VT commode air temp sensor = $10.20

    I thought this sounded great.

Then the bloke says do I want the clip that holds the sensor? I checked the diagram he had on he screen and it wasn't clear if the sensor had a thread or some other arrangement that would only work with the clip. The clip arrangement would be fine in na applications. I'll find out when I collect them if they are indeed threaded.

    Will update tomorrow.
