you could try emailing Neil Rosher - but the poor guy is usually inundated with emails and work.

I used to eat alot of natural foods. That was until I learned that most people died of natural causes.
on p58 of issue 15, there's a pic of the bow used to cut the foam for the door they fill with a fibre-glass-covered form insert. Bow looks about a metre long. They used a power supply rated to 30V @ 2.5 amps. However, the text says they started at 12v and raised the current & voltage til it cut cleanly. Note that they used 10amp cable between the power supply & cutting bow.
Yeah in the article about making spoilers he cuts a very wide piece out...Im guessing he would have needed a good 1500mm wide bow then....I wish I still had my frikin magazine.
Currently working on this. Fingers crossed it all works out!

Well turns out that roughly 400mm seems to work well hooked straight up to the battery. Off to buy some foam now, will take some pics.

hey mate, yeah was about to say my mates dad does this for EPP flying wings and just striaght to a 12v battery, nichrome wire is very conductive and has a great heat range so it wont cook itself too easily, just dont leave it on too long and check your battery temp.
Heres a pic of the the cutter I ended up making. Its very simple and far from perfect but it did the job fine.
The problems were:
The ratchet strap for tension adjustment was no good, need finer tuning. I broke the wire a few times as the difference between a loose wire and a tight wire was often less than 1 click of the ratchet.
The steel frame (previous a stand for my fish tank light) bent too much. Ill make something specifically for a foam cutter another time.
Battery as a power supply was ok for small stuff but if I want to be able to cut something wider than 500mm (spoiler/etc) I'll need something else.
Thanks for the advice, +rep for everyone in this thread.![]()
