Default What power steering fluid type - JZA80

    Hey all,

Going out to purchase stuff I need for the weekend. I need to know what fluid to use in my power steering for my JZA80 Supra, and what to use in the hydrofan setup. I'm going to have a search around, but figured someone would know off the top of their head.

    Cheers,
    Nathan

Sorry mate I have to differ here. Mate of mine replaced the seals in his power steer pump on a 1UZ, filled the resevoir with Dextron III, started the engine, and near shit himself with the howls of complaints from the pump. No amount of bleeding would fix the problem! I dropped over with a couple of bottles of Penrite power steering fluid, drained the Dextron III, and filled her up with the Penrite, within 5 seconds of starting, the power steering system was as quiet as a mouse. Use the same stuff in your hydraulic fan resevoir.

Think carefully about what each system is designed to do. The power steer pump and fan pumps are purely hydraulic pumps, and needs only pure hydraulic oil to operate perfectly. On the other hand an Auto transmission requires additives within the hydraulic oil to achieve correct functioning of the box.

    cheers Chuck.

+1 for Dex 3 ATF in both PS and Hydrofan.

Z Ute - Your pump is probably on the way out, using the thicker PS fluid has only masked the problem?

Well old mate, as a masking job it has done wonders, the pump has lasted another 3 years without needing a rebuild!
