Thank you for the detailed explanation OC, greatly appreciated! (will rep once I've spread enough to rep again).

Glenn - If you're looking at swapping to the 2 piston rears you could try import monster, there's always a few sets of 2nd hand rears selling separately on yahoo.jp... Also try Koffee_black's trader forum on the supraforums (Gorilla Industries), he was selling reconditioned callipers a while back.

Wonder if i can get just rears from toyota?
Sure is. As you said, just buy them from Toyota. I got brand new front and rear calipers, freighted to Perth from NZ for $1100. I'd say a large chunk of that was the fronts. I then sourced the rotors locally for like $200.

Just thought id ask, may be a stupid question, but have you greased the slides etc on the rear calipers? do they slide freely and return properly? Alot of imports get moisture in the slides and rust up and bind, and also the extra heat from the racetrack can destroy the grease and it gunks up.
Im guessing you may have tried, but with the rear end jacked up, can you turn both rear wheels freely and evenly by hand?

havent tried that or regreased them to be honest. Replaced the pads recently and had no trouble moving them. Although by the looks of all the fancy maths above from what i understand of it (i could have totally misunderstood) but i am getting the same, or at least close to, the same braking pressure problem is its over a smaller surface area?? Is that it boys or did i totally miss the mark??

Also the hunt for rear calipers isnt going well so far, it has only been 1 day but not looking good as the reco'd are not available and new ones quoted price is 620 a side.

the caliper you have now (1pot), has more braking force than the 2 pot. not due to pad area, just due to piston size and disc size.

pad area helps with heat and consistency and wear etc, but the braking force should not be drastically affected by pad area (in this simple comparison..)
