    Default 18rg into KE30 ??

    Hey guys,
    New here!
Im building a KE30 IPRA car, it currently has a 3t pushrod engine with a t50 box in it but we are building a 18rg for it.
How hard is the conversion? Has anyone done it before?
    Any tips????

    Cheers Matt

If you can weld a farm gate you can weld a crossmember to make the 18R-G fit. I've seen it done, just not pretty. A nicer conversion is to use a 2T-G motor and T50 gearbox. It will be lighter and fit better , and the car should handle better. Use the 3T bottom end. With the right parts it would be close to 2 litre.

But if you can use any Toyota 4 cylinder, and you are racing, then you would be better off using a more modern 16v engine.

    Even a stock 4A-GE 20v maybe better value than a built 18R-G.

it should be very easy for the 4AG.
you can easily get RWD manifolds for different carbs, from webers to flat slides,
you can buy (off auctions) or make an adaptor to use a 4K dizzy in a 4AG, or just modify somethign else to give the mech and vac advance.

RWD gearbox, no problem, RWD water pumps, still buy new...

the 18R is a big heavy motor, whereas a 4A block is about the same size as a 4K block...

Hey, congrats on the purchase of a neat little 30.

YES, it is possible to put an RG in the 30, you will need a W50 gearbox, change the sump to suit the cross member/steering or mod the cross member to suit the RG sump. Or find a cross member from something else that runs and RG like an RA23 depending on the distance between the chassis rails.

Once this is sorted, you will need to mod the gearbox cross member, move the gearstick hole back a few inches, mod the tailshaft to suit the gearbox and diff combination.

Then you're back on the track. Keep us posted on what you decide.

Front sump motor, cut and spread the crossmember mounts. Everything else should clear, will just need to fit hydraulic clutch, modify a gearbox crossmember and maybe move the gearlever hole back a little. Some pics of how we did the mounts in my KE70 -

Hey, there are plenty of 4AG conversions in KE corolla's here on Toymods. It is fairly straight forward using AE71 or AE86 engine driveline and cross members. The 4A family is a good lightweight conversion but lacks in torque required for track use.

Given that your car is fitted with a 2T, a good option would be a 3TGTE twincam, twin plug and turbo set up that will bolt up to your existing T50 g/box etc. You could sell both the 18RG and 2T to help buy one for about $1500.

    Just a thought.

AE71 cross-member in KE30? need to mod the member for chassis bolting holes...

would that swap be legal for IPRA?

    AE71 crossmember isnt "bolt-in"

Just make some engine mounts for the stock crossmember

    Which brings me to my next point;
Seeing the pictures of the car in members ride, it would need some work to restore to meet IPRA as they need original dash and door trims/paddings etc in tact. I would have thought this car would be better suited to 2ltr Sports sedan.
