Default TIMING CHAIN ISSUES with 18RG 2TG (More common than you realise).

Since being shocked by cost and lack of supply of the chains and gears I started doing some research.
Using the 1978 Microfiche from the RA28 series celica GT I found some interesting similarities and identical part numbers.
These are provided as aresearch guide only in the hope you can find the part you need.
I did all this shit 1977 by myself with total lack of co-operation by Toyota and all stuff was bought offshore.
The 1977 RA28 Toyota microfiche is a good source of information as follows:

    18RG Head 75/10 to 76/11 11100-88232
    18RG Block --------------. 11100-88234

    Lower Timing Chain 13506-33010
NOTE 18RC uses TWO of these so TOP CHAIN OF 18RC fits bottom of 18RG

    18RG TOP CHAIN 13507-88210
NOTE TOP CHAIN OF 18RG and 2TG are identical part numbers.

    Fitted to TA22 TA23 TA27 RA28 GT.

TOP GEARS IDENTICAL 13523-88220 24 teeth. dowelled.

    Camshaft 13523-17207 or 7707

These parts are only going to get harder and harder to find. I have started hording parts, if I see a 18rg part I may need in the future I usally purchase it, especially if they are new original parts.
You cant have too many parts. I think the chain slippers and guides are going to be problematic to obtain in the near future as they ar very hard to find now.
That seems to be the ame for all 30 year+ toyota gear
    Cheers

isn't there an old thread about chain guides in 18Rxx?

from memory (and it's pretty hazy at the moment) you could use guides from 5M's with slight modifications?

I recall someone getting a price for replacing the wear face on the guides replaced as well.

I will check the fische. Trouble is 18RG had three types 9.7 9.2 and 8.7 and of course flat.
You could always use flat and surface head and machine valve indents.
Like we do in L28's for Turbo.

3TGTE chains are the same as the ones from a V8 commodore from memory. Will have to check with my mechanic and find out the P/no

The lower chain for the 18R - RG and RC are exactly the same as the lower chain of the 253 - 308 Holdens.
I am not sure about the 3T having the same as these though (it may have been answered in the first post).
    YelloRolla's KE20 1/4mi = 11.32 @ 119mph @ 22psi on slicks
    12.44 @ 113 mph on 165 wide street tyres
210rwkw - not bad for a smelly 3TGTE running pump fuel.
