4AGE dizzy interchangeable

I've got a bit of a problem at the moment with my 1987 AE92 GTi (UK model). As a process of elimination i am looking to change the dizzy with another one and as these are not the easiest to source was wondering if the dizzys are interchangeable across the 4AGE range. Obviously there was the blue top then red top and also the later 4AGE engines. The EPC shows different part numbers but that is for the complete assembly and they all had different dizzy caps and leads anyway.

Mechanically they are the same, plugs are different and i think there may be some electical differences also, based on my experience converting a Smallport engine running Bogport ECU, Injectors and dizzy to the proper stuff.

What is the problem you are having? there are things you can check to see if the dizzy is ok.

there are 3 totally different dissys. the 2 bolts that hold the cap are in a different location, electrically different also. you need the correct one.

Looking back on it maybe i should start with the starter again but now im thinking alternator maybe..
