AW11 4age no spark but starts..

okie dokie, got an AW11 in the workshop that stalls when its hot, when it sounds like its stalling, it has no spark being the reason it "high stalls" .. sort of stalls while revving or idling etc... but yet it starts back up straight away and doesnt last more than 4 minutes before doing it again.. but while cold takes about 20 minutes to activate such a problem

now what im asking is if people have had this problem before and did they have dramas with the coil / ignitor / or is there a crank angle pick up inside the dizy that i should point the finger at....

better still anyone in perth with such parts i could purchase?

I don't know jack about AW11's, but i had these exact symptoms on another car, and it was a faulty CAS that only screwed up when it got hot. Pouring some water directly on to it to cool it down got you motoring again (for a while).

yeh ive had that problem on a 528i beamer too... bit of cooling and spark returns..

thing is this little bugger restarts immediately... really hard to decipher unless ive got parts to swap over...

Is the dizzy leaking much oil? they have an inner and an outer seal, if the inner one if fubar it will leak oil into the dizzy n probably not help.



If you do go for a new dizzy it would probably pay to rebuilt it anyways

Smallport 4age has very very similar internals to the 4agze cas, just need to make a cover for it.

thanks for your help champ, tho since its a customers car id rather get the correct parts for the car..

only reason im on here asking is more to find those parts, which is proving pritty difficult

Getting pretty hard to get 4agze cas sensors these days, can I suggest you sign up at www.twincam.org.au. And don't forget the .au part someone might still have one lying about,

Measure the resistances of the dist sensors when cold,
run the car till it stops and measure them hot.

They should all stay around the same,

But I suspect you will find one goes way out if it is that.

update... actually i fixed this a week ago...

it was a coil open circuiting when hot, sprayed it with windex while hot and it wouldnt shut down...
