Do you have the cruise control setup?
Such as:
jzx81
or
mx83 ---google image failure
Morning,
So i'd really like to get cruise control going in my cressida. The car did have it before (i have the hole in column for the stalk, but it's been removed) - but post 1JZ swap it ws never set up.
I'm not too sure what was done with the wiring, from memory the previous owner said that JZX81 wiring was used (i have a jzx81 dash as well) - but then he also said the ecu was from a supra, but when i pulled it out to wire in piggyback ecu I discovered it was actually from a JZX90...
So my question.. before i start getting the parts, i assume the hurdle here will be if i actually have the cruise control wiring (or if the JZX81 wiring was used, if it had cruise control?) - to that end, can someone please take a close up pic of what the plugs look like for it and/or let me know where they come from so i can try and trace? I can't see any plugs without homes at this point..
Have search and found some info, and some general engine bay shots (i will need to move my power steering reservoir) - but can't find info this specific..
If its going to be impossible i'll get aftermarket, but obviously stock would be preferable due to the cost..
Thanks
Bardin

Cruise for the JZX81 was quite rare from what I have seen, but many people have been able to adapt the MX83 cruise in place when they do conversions.
This is because they run a separate cruise control computer and while not a stable as those available from current cars, seems smart enough (or dumb depending on which way you see it) to still work regardless of the engine.
The computer is around the brake pedal box so may still be in place depending on how lazy the previous owner was. I cant see pics of your engine bay at work, but it sounds like they have removed the actuator from the engine bay, so lets hope thats all they have done. As for the re-mounting of it, I have seen pics of it installed in the factory place with the JZX81 power steering reservior moved slightly across the strut tower (TTMX83's old car) or sharing the same space (Herus).
The other part will be making it work with a manual, which isnt too hard, check out this thread - http://www.toymods.org.au/forums/showthread.php?t=37137 . Basically has to do with the computer wanting to know if the shifter is in Drive for it to work (not related to gearbox and the NSW)
Well played cuzbro, and lo and behold, hiding under my washer bottle are these plugs, which i can only assume are JZX81 cruise control:
This would also explain why my washer bottle wiring looks dodgy and doesn't work
It seems that the previous owner might have been right about using JZX81 loom after all.... which means it could be easier to get the JZX81 actuator (assuming i can get my hands on one) - but then does the JZX81 unit need the separate computer as well (and is so, are they the same), or is it standalone?
Thanks for the link, that part of things at least, looks fairly easy

I have a feeling you may not find a jzx81 actuator.
The link is definetly an interesting one. I thought i would loose cruise when/if i went manual.
Looks pretty simple. Except fot the fact that you would need to press the clutch to start. May confuse the odd driver of the vehicle.
I think you will have buckleys chance of finding a JZX81 cruise setup, but what I was trying to get at was that the MX83 stuff will work fine and a hell of a lot easier to aquire. And you may already lucked out if all that was removed was the actuator and the switch.
I will check out the pics when I get home but I know that the plugs under the washer bottle for my car were not related to the crusie, mine appear to come from near the relay box behind the battery.
And yeah, setting it up to work with the manual was surprisingly easy as I have just done it on my car. And Cuzzo, they way I have set it up does not affect how it starts - the clutch switch only cancels the crusie and nothing else (granted I have never tried starting it in gear but thats besides the point, and the first month it wasnt even wired up so had no affect).

I thought we established it will be a PITA!
Get a mx83 setup, wire it(hard part) = WIN.
Sideshow did mine so i think it may be a little difficult.

This looks to be the MX83 cruise control computer - link, so you know what youre looking for (mine is green so could be a different colour but plugs look to be the same and at least the label is useful unlike some other modules). Though I am sure that you could get the whole lot (ecu, actuator, stalk, loom) for not as much as they are asking (150 all up with the other items listed separately, not including the loom).
Thanks for that. Yeah wouldn't expect to need to spend more than 50 odd all up, it is just a question of if its usable with my wiring as it stands... Might take a look at adams car next to mine at some point for a better idea
