Default SA63 Auto Transmission overdrive problem

So I'm heading down the M5 today with the OD button on in my SA63 as normal when it dropped back to 3rd gear for no reason and wouldn't go back into OD 4th. I pushed the button to disengage and then pushed it again and it engaged OD. A minute later it did it again. Pushed the button again and it righted itself. It did it a third time and now won't go into OD at all. Anyone familiar with this problem? Where should I start to look?

    Cheers, Greg

Hmm I'm not too up on the SA63's setup in particular, but does it have a temperature switch which allows the O/D solenoid to be triggered? i.e. to make the O/D not kick in until the auto is up to temp...

I had a quick look at some diagrams I have for A43D (MX62 Cressida) which I think would be pretty similar, and it's quite a simple circuit.

Power to the O/D Switch goes to the O/D Relay and then to the O/D Solenoid (When the O/D switch and relay are ON).

The O/D relay needs the 'Thermistor' to be closed to allow the relay to close.

I can post up the electrical drawing if you need

I'd be looking at the thermistor first at a guess

I've got no idea about any of that. The OD was working even if the car was cold cause I pretty much left it on all the time, (Is that bad?).

Hmm, sorry not exactly sure how the SA63 setup works

I wouldn't be concerned about the O/D being on all the time personally...

Might have to wait for someone to chime in with a SA63 diagram! Suspect it might just be switch and relay tho?

My RA65 auto will not select 4th gear until the temp has moved on the gauge, but your problem sounds electrical. It sounds that the solenoid is disengaging.

Have you had the auto serviced?
If not maybe go and see auto tranny place.

Went and had a word with my mechanic. He reckons it may just be the switch. Will be taking it to him tomorrow for a look.

Well it looks like it's the solenoid and not the switch. Fuckin pricey to replace. They want $400 just for the solenoid.

Fair enough. I never thought of overnighting it.
Is it a straight swap for the SA63 one? I'm not sure what box is in it. I haven't been under and I wouldn't know how to identify it anyway.
