    Hi,

Hehehehe... yeah, I know how you feel... in my dark dim past I was once an impatient teenager too.

Put a "WTB 18R-G" in the classified section of these forums. Let the people know what you are after and specify that you aren't after a fully rebuilt one, nor are you after a clapped out dead 18R-G either.

You can also try "Japparts" and do a search on Yahoo or Google (specify Australia for your search) for "Japanese engines". You'll see some various companies that import engines. They may have an 18R-G instock or can get you one.

For the task you are embarking, I wouldn't pay more than $500 tops - preferably around the $350 mark for a stock 18R-G in fairish condition.

While your wating for an engine to become available, start scouring the internet and find out all you can about the 18R-G - to give you an idea of their strengths and weaknesses, what people do to them for more power, how they're built, what upgrades you can do etc.

You may want to check out toysports.com, and see their technical section 'cos they have some good history on the 18R-G and also some tips on modding them.

Yeah, definately go for the 18RG straight off. the one i bought a while ago was built using an 18R-C block, and it took at least two 18R-G's for them to complete the job.

If you're going for an 18RG it pays to check it over well before buying. Some parts that are often missing are the intake side of things, exhaust manifolds/extractors, top chain tensioners and dizzies.
To get these parts separately may take a little longer as people don't like to let some of them go.
"Complete and running" is most definately the best engine to buy.

One thing to check if buying an 18RGU is that the head isn't cracked. I have my doubts about some of the casting in the 88251 heads, as I've seen a couple crack in the same place. Light pressure testing is always worth the $20-30 BEFORE porting the thing!

    Best of luck with it,

and if you need any parts, PM me, I might just have a spare one lying around. Almost all of my parts are being put to use, does that still make me a hoarder?
