    it wasnt sitting up on the flywheel locator dowel's when bolted up the 1st time?

    Years ago i brought a car where they had fitted the clutch rotated 1 bolt hole and it sat on top of the dowels and wouldnt engage/disengage properly.

    OK. The distance between the clutch face and its mounting surface should be 1/2 the thickness of the disk, if the flywheel has a flat surface and is not stepped.
    If new one has less the 1/2, it isn't going to disengage very well. It seems like they should work just as well but they don't, I can't explain why the leverage is different.

    Yeah the mechanic explained that. Well good news the OEM is in and works fine. Looks like ill be able to hit the celica day after all
