I'd be trying something like 'knead-it' or similar might do the trick. You're not clamping it anywhere near the exhuast are you?
Hey guys,
As some of you may recall I have a Jaycar super ear kit with a transducer as a knock sensor. The thing works VERY well but on the initial test drive I have found that the regular epoxy I used can't stand the heat and the transducer came off the clamp that goes on the block. Does anyone know of a product that can glue the transducer to the clamp and sustain very high temps?
Thanks
Chris

Is there any other way of attaching it?
you know what I mean this electric stream
and my tears in league with the
wires and energy and my machine
this is my beautiful dream
Cant help u out with the epoxy but the one on autospeed they cable tied on then put heat shrink over the top
Id be interested to hear how it goes on further testing though
Yes, I bought a 2-part epoxy the other day that was good for 600 degrees C. Cost $18 but as yet I haven't tried it. Will have a look tonight and let you know what it is called.
Thanks guys.
It is on the intake side but it still gets bloody hot down there. I don't know how you could keep it still with a cable tie. Any movement at all with this thing and you can hear it. You have to be very careful as you can hurt your ears if you knock the sensor.
Also, was testing it out yesterday. My dad is a plumber and has to find pipes under the ground sometimes. We put the clamp on the handle of the tap outside my house and he went down to near the water meter about 60m away and had a metal pole. He was tapping it on the ground and I could hear it clear as day. I could even hear the grass being squished as he was tapping it. He then moved the pole around the grass and I could hear that as well. I am bloody impressed with the sensitivity of this thing![]()
I'm very interested as well....Originally Posted by Grant

Chris: have you tried DEVCON aka liquid steel its pretty good shit. I just had a look on the packet for a temp range but it didnt have one.
Can you tell me more about this super ear kit and mabe put up some pics im really interested in it!!
It is something thats permantly mounted to the block or something used when tuning to listen to detonation?
How clear is it when attached to the motor. hearing detonation over combustion noise?Any info appreciated!

30psi: nope, haven't tried anything other than normal aroldite (sp) and that wasn't up to the task. I will see what Grant says first I think and will have a look for that stuff as well.

Hope that works. It is a hearing aid basically. I then got a transducer and some shielded cable and I wear headphones. I have only tried it on my daily driver camry and only for 5 minutes but I could hear a lot. On that engine I could hear a lot of injector clicking as it was out in the open rather than under the manifold like on my 1j. I am unsure how well I will be able to listen for knock but I can bet that it is a lot better than with my ear alone.
I will be attaching it to the block via a clamp and just using it for tuning. I also have the stock knock sensors datalogged by my wideband o2 so that is how I am going to attempt to work out what sound exactly I should be looking for.
So I am using the super ear, wideband o2, (knock sensor logging) and microtech datalogging to do the tuning. I am just going to be tuning for 98 octane to start with. Then 98 plus Martini Super Boost, then Shell 100oct then 100oct plus super boost.
Should be fun. I plan on doing most of the tuning on the street and then fine tune on the dyno.
Devcon is rated to 120 deg centigrade continuous exposure.![]()

Chris, i got bog.. that do ? hahah
There is this stuff called metal tech, its a metal based bog basicly, might be the same stuff if not "Devcon" as 30psi mentioned, dad used it on his rusty old van years ago lol funny shit.. Even some loctite might work but you have to let it set for atleast 24hours. Otherwise.. Got welder ?
Wes.
Bitch, come over here and have sex with Charlie Murphy..
Im Rick James bitch!
Ok, the stuff I bought was called "JB WELD" and it claims to fill and bond all sorts of metals and will hold up to 315 degrees C. As I said though, I haven't used it yet so can't vouch for its effectiveness.
Chris it sounds pretty good.
It may well help me out as im just about to push my 4a to hell ( 300+rwkw) and as i run aftermarket ECU it doesnt have an imput for a knock sensor so i can only go by ear and A/F which is Fu@kn hard when the cars boostn to all hell and revn to 9000+
