idle control through ignition advance is a crappy way to do it. Nowhere near as good as a functioning ISCV. Haltech should have instructions somewhere on how they prefer to have it wired, it's basically the same for all aftermarket ECU's that have the capability though and this is how link does the wiring:
    http://www.linkecu.com/support/docum...l-drawings/A02

The timing needs to be unlocked when starting the engine as engines dont like to rev with static ignition advance, they just generate massive EGT's and burn valves etc. The timing lock feature is there so you can check the trigger offset while the engine is running and also so you can make sure there's no timing drift at low loads when increasing revs.

I see, awesome, thanks for the link.
Looks like i'll probably wire up the ISCV, just looking through the presets it actually has one for an idle control solenoid happy days

It's finally started to warm up outside now, i might start on it soon (just above 3 degrees now).

And JP, sir I'm learning quite a lot from you, i really appreciate it.

So it's running kinda, i've just finished covering all the wires in the engine bay today.

Now im starting to look at the base maps, ignition and fuel.

It doesn't have a idle nor can a have it hold a set amount of revs when i hold the throttle open a little...

It seems to me ( i know i don't know much about it all just yet) but i think the 20V map doesn't really suit my application, i have quite an amount of inlet restriction compared to a NA 20 4age due to the fmic and no supercharger running, the basic idea will be to tune it without the boost and get it all right, and then set the SC clutch to engage around 30% TPS value and tune to allow for increased manifold pressures.

Im pointing at vacuum leak like ignition has suggested for not having a idle/steady revs but im not quite sure.

is there any rough values that the timing should be set to to hold a steady idle? as with the base fuel map?

As with the ISCV, i'll wire it up later, i just want to get it to hold a fairly constant idle, so i can get it on the road, half tuned so i can limp it to the dyno.

it should idle fine with ignition anywhere from 14 to 17deg in the idle part of the map. Just make sure the value is the same in all cells around the cell it idles in as the idle will change with ignition timing changes. Advance the timing to increase the idle, retard the timing to reduce it.
The actual running value is usually interpolated from the current cell and it's surrounding cells, so if you have 14deg in the primary cell and a 25 next to it, you can get a fluctuating idle.

same with the fuel value, keep all the injection values consistent around the idle cells and it should smooth out. If the car had a vac leak then it would idle high.

Does the haltech tune in injection ms or by Volumetric Efficiency?

this right here would be your answer

I have chosen to tune via MS as im not to keen on the VE style tuning... as you can tune with either.

Thanks for the advice on the timing values i will try them out during the week/tomorrow.

Vito, no, it will idle without the ISCV, it will just be a lot smoother with the ISCV wired in, which i will do down the track...

and i can set a post start enrichment table to give it a bit extra fuel once it starts till air temp gets to X temprature

do your startup enrichment via the coolant correction table, not the air temp correction table.
