    Default E-Manage install on 1JZGTE (JZA70)

i encountered a few problems while attempting to prep my e-manage today for installation, what wouldve taken 30 minutes (to label and strip wires) turned into aa 3 hour struggle for information...

so, for anyone contemplating installing an e-manage to their JZA70 (as other 1JZ ECU's are different) ive decided to write this to save some time.

now, when you open your E-manage box (or in my case, several) you'll be faced with the vibrant blue unit, and a few extra bitties...

    the complete list is:
    The unit
    Main Harness
    2x Male connector + Sleeves
    3x Female connectors + Sleeves
5x "splices" (for tapping into wires)
    1x "split harness"
    3 small zip-ties
4 small balck screws (for mounting the unit)
1 Allen (Hex) wrench (for taking the units face off)
1x "Greddy adjustment tool" basically a crappy little screwdriver/wrench thing.
    and finally,
the instructions (in my case, Japanese, and near useless, bar the pinout)

now, you might ask yourself why it took me so long... well, i also had included...

    the injector harness
    the ignition harness
and the additional Trust/Greddy Knock Sensor controller
every single instruction was in japanese...

first and foremost, grab your allen wrench and the e-manage unit, and unscrew the face plate off of the "adjustment (non-harness)" side, you'll be face with a whole row of Pots.

on the left, there will be 3 Pots that you cant access without taking the cover off, if you look closely, these Pots have numbers on one side of their circular adjustment, and numbers on the other, pay no attention to the numbers, as, for the 1J, they arent needed.

on the three pots, from left to right, use the crappy Greddy tool thingy (technical, i know) adjust them so that the arrows face 7-4-0.

provided the unit is new, your done, as the factory adjustments inside are set up from factory to suit the 1JZ, its just the VTEC boys that need to take the units large cover off and bugger around with jumpers.

screw everything together and put the unit out of your way.

next up, grab your harness (the power harness that came with the unit), you'll notice the plug only has 9 wires sticking out of it, the rest is empty.

the additional spaces are for the additional injector harness, but ill leave that till later.

the 9 wires in the plug are coloured:
    red - Power
white - Map Sensor Signal (Engine side)
    brown - RPM signal
    black - Ground
green - Map Sensor Signal (ECU side)
    light blue
    purple
    yellow
    grey

the ones ive put in bold, you can take out, as, once again, they arent needed, as they're for karmann vortex AFM/VTEC type engines, that we dont need.

Ill also scan and post up an ECU pinout diagram soon.

strip and tin the end of these wires (if your soldering, i am, as crimps are horrible to work with and take up too much room for me).

Thats it for the setup of the main unit.

If you have the additional injector/ignition harnesses (you should, as the e-Manage is more or less useless without them) continue reading the thread, as ill post up what to do with those.

    ill upload some piccies soon.

Ok, moving onto the injector harness.

If you were feeling cheap, you dont actually need to buy the harness from Greddy, as all the harness is, is a further 9 wires that clip into the plug that you get with the unit, so any wire with the right clip on the end will do, as long as it clips into the plug securely.

    wire colours for this are:
    Purple/Red - Signal #2
    Yellow/Red - Signal #2
    Orange/Red - Signal #1
    Blue/Red - Signal #1
    Black/Red - Injector Ground
    Light Blue/Red - Signal #3
    Pink/Red - Signal - #3
    Green/Red - Signal #1
    White/Red - Signal #1

The last two, in bold are apparently optional, i didnt see any harm in having them there, so i left them, but they can be removed without it causing the e-manage any distress.

ive uploaded the diagram for the connector, all the same wires should be joined before putting it into the car, as it'll save alot of headache.

ive also uploaded the ECU pinout for the JZA70 ECU (kindly taken from Supra6's site, full props to him/her) with my handwritten notes as to what wires need to be accessed, of the 30 wires (or so) of the e-manage, only 15 actually have to be taken from the ECU, the extra two pins on my diagram are for my additional Greddy knock sensor controller.

ive tried to keep the files as low in size as possible, at the sacrifice of size/quality, but they're still decent enough to do the job.

Thats it for that connector entirely, the next job is the ignition harness, this is where it gets a bit confusing.

its also worth noting that in the injector harness, these two you have in bold at the bottom:

    Green/Red - Signal #1
    White/Red - Signal #1

    Are subinjector outputs

I've now prepped my loom to suit, but when i pulled my glovebox i discovered i actually have a jzx90 ecu, same shit different shovel.. Should complete fitting it tonight with a bit of luck.

The one thing i noticed is that the greddy manual says to use the wires of the main loom as Eldaro above (for map sensored engines), leaving out the grey. As far as i can tell, the grey is for TPS, and i don't understand why you wouldn't hook it up? It isn't listed as required for AFM vehicles either, i was only able to find what it actually was for by googling.

Something else i'll be doing and might as well post in here, is using one of the subinjector outputs as an EBC with a GM boost solenoid (purchased off ebay US for ~$40) - details on how to do this are here:

$200 for a piggyback ecu and EBC, i'm pretty stoked..
