a fuel line mistaken for a oil line? have you done any work on it recently?
Hey,
Just wondering if someone would know why I'm getting a heap of petrol mixed in with my engine oil.
Is a 4age FWD
Thanks

Its a 20v that has just been installed into the car... I've got the fuel inlet hose + return line on it... that is it. I ran the pump after finding it and i can hear the fuel returning to the tank. I drained the oil, but i've still got extra fuel in the sump though.![]()
Leaking injectors. Fuel will drain down past your rings if the motor is sitting and the cylinders are full of fuel.
Thanks dazza i'll replace them and see how i go
faulty air temp and coolant temp sensors can fail safe to RICH mode so at idle and or through the rev they can just dump the fuel in, and as said go past your rings.
extended cranking over time can dump the fuel in as well.

i dont have a funny or cool signature.
'I've scrapped better.' John stated when asked about the car by the guy with the silver tipped cowboy boots!
Stuffed rings will also allow fuel to pass the pistons and into the sump. If your injectors check out ok, do a compression test.

this ^^ was the first thing that popped into my mind too. can be a dangerous situation.
just rolling off an idea off the top of my head, could a faulty PCV valve or something to do with emissions cause a weird pressurization issue with the crankcase etc, causing fuel to be drawn into the sump? (would have though positive pressure if the pcv was rooted, but i dunno?)
stuck injectors or poorly wired car? - i once encountered a silver-top that had permanent battery power to the injectors and AFM. With key out of car you could turn fuel pump on with a finger down the AFM, and dodgy wiring at the ECU could do similar things to an injector.
when engine is running does it smell like it's running really rich?? if not the for sure it's gonna be an injector problem(leaking) if it;s running rich you could have a one af a few issues way too much fuel pressure, blocked return fuel line(i know you said you can hear it returning but maybe it's restricted) dodgy sensors(coolant temp, air flow)
Checked the injectors and the bottom seal was shot on 2 of them....
Will let you know once i get fresh oil into it.
Still got the same issue, ran it up for all of maybe 30 seconds, oil was filled half way deliberately and after checking again it was above full.
I took the return line off and fed back into a gerry can to eliminate a blocked return line. Comp test soon to follow.
Mate, with that sort of fuel flow, I would toss the old injectors away, and treat the old engine to a new set. The amount of fuel is WAY more than worn rings.
Are you sure it is fuel in the oil? Water being pumped into the oil sytem via a blown head gasket, would elevate the oil level rapidly. Might smell like fuel from the old leaking injector seals. Pull the sump plug out, drain some oil into a glass jar. Let the fluid settle for a few hours in the jar, check to see if you have oil floating on top of water, or fuel floating on top of oil.
cheers Chuck.

Thanks will give that a test, it definately smells like fuel though. Is there any way of decontaminating the oil so I can pour it back in. Is cheap prenrite oil, but $30 a start is getting a bit exy and i'm scared to run it up for more than a few seconds.
