Where are you getting 20mm round bar thats springsteel and who is goona bend it for you? Have you got some sort of forge or furnace in your workshop?
Hey Guys,
Currently looking at fitting a Sway bay on the rear of my hilux. I have been thinking about using 20mm bar and bending 90 degree corners in it and then mounting it from the circular bar on the chassi between the two chassi rails to the diff.
Ultimately wondering if anyone has done this before and if its worth doing, as well as what size you would reccomend to use as bar for it, would 20mm be overkill??
im mainly doing this because i use the car to take bikes to races so i have taken out the two helper springs but now its handling awesome but if you go into a corner hard the body rolls enough for the tray to touch the tire.
Thanks Guys

I'd look at adapting something first, but if you buy springsteel from a spring maker, bend it and take it back to get heat treated it should work OK. with a basic furnace you should be able to make the bends and forge the ends fairly easily.
I think theres a guy at Pedders in . . .Morphett Vale? I know he twinkles with Corollas already. He should be able to help you out I've heard if your interested. Think the names Alan
Talking to me on the last rollaclub cruise about the custom swaybars he has done in the past years.
I know of a silly mate of mine that thought he would make a kick ass bow and arrow out of volkswagon swaybars or leaf springs i can't quite remember but it was spring steel, no matter how much heat or banging /pressing he could not bend it, let us know how you go.
Haha Thanks guys yea im a newbie to all this and just trying out different things to see how they work. Was going to fabricate square tube onto the side of the existing round tube so i can mount the sway bar on proper mounts and bushings but was wondering what i could do in the way of actual sway bars. Might go out to U Pull It and se what i could malest lol. Also wold there be anything wrng with fabricating mounts off the diff that would come up with something that would hold a bush for the sway bar to go through??
Thanks heaps guys and might give that guy a call tomorrow
sorry but also opinion on what i may be able to use for a sway bar? anone come across anything i may be able to use or would 20mm be suitable if i wanted to make my own and in reply to Mick08 i have to source it still but i have a neighbour with a furnace that i can use.
I'm sure the Surf's (with coil rear) run a factory swaybar, see if you can get hold of one of those and see how you go. It means it will fit your diff (if you can rob the mounts) and will probably be pretty cheap. If its not thick enough you can always get a thicker one made up in the same shape or grab a second one and double it up.
