    Default Soarer wont leave "Park"

Car has been laid up for about 6 months to a year since I canned everything and we started her up today.

    So far:
    - Starts and idles fine
    - All diagnostics are clear
    - The car will not shift out of Park

    Tested:
    - Override switch / No change
    - ECU Reset / No change
    - Gearbox ecu reset / No change
    - The break lights are fine, so that fuse isn't stopping it.
    - The te1 - e1 diagnostic check isn't showing a fault code.

The shifter seems physically locked into place, I get the feeling there is some kind of lock out solenoid that is causing me problems here. There is a mechanical lock bolt under the shifter itself that can be adjusted, but I don't see how that could have altered itself during storage.

Anyone have an idea on what could be causing the issue?

if its the same as a z20, there is the rod that comes off the gearbox selector and runs to the underside of the gear shifter, one of the ends on there has room for adjustment so have a look there, when mine was out of place it was really hard to move the shifter between gears so id say maybe something there

I'd be guessing that you have to press down on the brake before it will
come out of Park. So however that interlock works ?? Mechanical or
electrical, there could be a wire off or a leg out of bed somewhere ??

    Cheers... jondee86

Check your fuses... completely different car, but Dads SX4 just would not shift out of park except by using shift lock override when he blew a fuse for something completely different...

Leathal: Yeah that's next on my list to check

Jondee86: yes that is the case, you must depress the break to unlock, the wiring for the ECUs have been checked and reseated, but I am yet to check against the shifter body.

Mole: fuse wise I ran down the major and minor ones earlier tonight and found nothing blown, but I'll check again in better light.

how bout something physically stopping the linkage moving, i.e. stick, rock? hop under the car, get some to try n shift while you try to physically move the linkage!

When you put your foot on the brake, you should be able to hear the little shifter lock out solonoid move, also push down on the little red button on the shifter surround as it physically moves the lock out out of the way, if that still does not work as has been mentioned check for something fouling the linkages & check under your shifter surround as well ...

QFT. Press the red button near the shifter (and hold the button on the lever itself) while trying to move it. If the red button doesn't let it move, then the mechanism on the shifter itself has carked it. Its pretty easy to work around, removing the shift-lock is pretty straight-forward (you'll see when you remove the trim).

may also be it moved while in park. try rocking the car and then changing out of park. or listen for the solenoid like has been mentioned
