The block is fairly bloody tough. Use a really sharp gasket scraper, or as I did, a Stanley blade. Coat the block surface with the lubricant of your choice, RP7 Inox et al. Get a nice sharpening stone, spray that too and rub everything over. It should come up uber smooth. I then used wax and grease remover (because it's what I had lying around) and a cloth and kept wiping everything until it came back clean. Give the block, the head, and both sides of the gasket with a coat of Hylomar before you put it all back together.

Will do as frank said tonght as I have all the stuff at home...
My coolant gallerys were pretty clean, as I had just had the system flushed when I was diagnosing the BHG..
